I like this being up late at night. Used to be I was up all night. That seems like a really long time ago.

John awful sorry about your aunt. I have one aunt left. I have one uncle but I'll never see him again.

Chris the pizza looks good. Of course to me bad pizza is good pizza. Pastry is a perfect follow up.

Gotta get moving in the morning. The battery place I'm going to is only open till noon. The batteries I'm replacing are 7 years old. They are AGM batteries, probably pretty expensive when they were new. I could try to charge them and reinvigorate them, but I don't know how much luck I'd have, or how long they'd last.

Okay Tiger has gone to bed, I think I'll follow. Have a good night everyone. About 12 minutes left.

Hi guys,

Just got back from my younger grandson Keegan's (6-yrs) hockey tournament. His team played great and he only gave up 2 goals total. He played every minute in goal for both games. I finally got some decent pics of the little guy.

Team photo before the game. Keegan is obviously in his hockey gear. His Dad Justin is inmthe back row, 2nd from the left.

Last image is a coat of Lacquer Sanding Sealer (Deft). This is not a requirement - many will leave out this step. Since it's an exterior door (behind a storm door) a coat of Lacquer Sanding Sealer will help to protect the integrity of the door from the elements as it's essentially a protective sealant prior to applying top coats.

You're right Norm, he really loves it! One other tidbit about him, he's our "Rain Main" of Pro and College sports. If you were to ask him what the mascot is of the NHL Vancouver franchise, he would know it's the Canucks. Likewise, if you asked him the home city where the MLB Blue Jays play, he would tell you Toronto. It doesn't matter what Pro or College league, he knows them all!

Norm - Wow, the stained door looks gorgeous! 👍 I knew it would by the time you got done (close) with it. When they're all done it will be well worth the effort when they all look like that! Great job!

Hi everyone.

Full and nice day today. Went and got my batteries, only 235 for the pair. I started to install them but my neighbor the hot rodder stopped by and talked for almost an hour. After that it was time to go to Mom's so I'll get to them later. I did get the fuel filter put on and the fan put on.

Went to the Awful house for lunch. Had a nice chat with my friends. Got some laundry done this afternoon while working on the Suburban.

Tomorrow is Walmart and then I'll do yardwork at Mom's. I need to take the battery charger over and get the tractor started. There's quite a bit I can do in the back yard with it. The battery is the original, about 8 years old. It's been charged and gone dead about a thousand times. Each time it comes back, it must be a wonder battery. If I ever do have to get a new one, I'll have to get it at Deere, because it's some odd size that no one carries. Hm.

Gonna get to bed a little early tonight. Maybe if I get up a little earlier, we'll get to Walmart and get back a little earlier, and I'll have more time to work outside. Ya right.

Have a good night everyone.

Cleaning up for my sister coming by enroute to family up in Greene County.

I am routinely surprised by how much people emotionally invest themselves in car knowledge. You're not more or less of a man if you don't know things. I see this knowledge hoarding at work; people who are really not that smart have carved out a little niche and they don't want you to know what they know so they can feel superior and secure. We were discussing heads on H/Os today on a facebook page. I gave a big answer, and the guy who asked contradicted me on one point and ignored the rest. I said, why bother asking if you already know it all? I think some people who play the knowledge hoarding game play dumb and get you to explain things just so they can argue. I think unintelligent people mistake knowledge for intelligence, or they really want to believe their knowledge in an area is a worthy substitute for just not being all that swift. One of the best indicators of intelligence is the ability to admit you don't know something (yet). I think it cheapens us all to gatekeep knowledge and try to act better than someone else because you know something he doesn't when you could just teach him and you would both be better for it.

I am not the world's best rifle marksman, yet I have taught hundreds of people how to shoot effectively. What is more of an impact? It's the same thing as automotive knowledge.

John to your point, I have always found sharing what I know, and surrounding myself with those that feel the same.

Hand sanded Sanding Sealer @ 220. Next, sanding will be @ 220. Third sanding will be determined based upon dust/texture - might be 220 could be > 220 (e.g. 400). Final sanding will be 0000 steel wool.

Mesotrione arrived several days ago & I've been spot spraying past several days. 2,4-D Amine arrived today - I'll be ready for the 1st yard spraying once things warm up.

Speaking of warming up. It decidedly became much colder than I expected as the front is passing through - 35°F @ night, didn't get any higher than 43°F today. I was going to wait 16 hrs. for the Spar Urethane to dry anyways, so it's not much of an issue. Thankfully the humidity is only 39%. I'd prefer to apply Spar Urethane no lower than 50°F or 55°F (optimally >70°F). I went sparingly on the 1st application. We'll see what tomorrow has in store.

Keith - I have to apologize - it's taken me ~3 hrs. to figure out mad'r pop - made her pop. I either (1) had my head up my butt (usual resting position); or, (2) was still on my Urethane "high" from the fumes. Most likely the former (1).

Hi everyone.

Just about time to hit the sack. Been a full day. Finished shredding the branches from the downed tree, raked, cleaned up, done. There are still a few branches thrown out into the woods I'll have to do something with someday, and the stump still needs to be pulled out, but I am declaring this job done. Holy Toledo. Much bigger job than I thought it would be.

Pizza looks good John. I was going to suggest we get pizza this evening but Mom wanted shrimp. So we went to O'Charleys. I wonder if they have pizza, I never looked.

Tomorrow is my last day off. It really has seemed like I've been off work awhile. I've gotten a lot done over the past few days. This week is going to fly past because I need to get ready for Australia and I've got lots to do.

Tiger goes to the vet tomorrow for his yearly shots. If the one doctor isn't there he is a handful. If she is there he puts up with it but isn't happy.

Okay good night everyone.

Mom & Mrs. Lipinski (Louise) met in Chicago, IL (where I was born, 1952). They were the most dearing of friends & remained friends their entire lives even after we moved from Chicago to Elgin, IL. Dad got on as a close friend to her husband (Dave), as well - everyone calling him "Lip". As long as I recall Mom headed to Mrs. Lipinski's house a couple times each year to make pizza crusts. They'd spend the entire day making ~40 - 50 pizza crusts. Mom came home w/ ~20 - 25 frozen pizza crusts. We had a couple 16 cubic foot freezers in the basement. A sad day when us kids saw we had no pizza crusts in the freezers - Mom to the rescue as she'd plan a trip to Mrs. Lipinski's for a day. Pizza nights were fun in our house as we'd grab a couple pizza crusts from the freezer & create our own pizzas at home. Those crusts were delicious - they had that unique gritty (salt?) texture to them.

Mike - Glad you got the tree clean-up project done. Enjoy your last day off, and short week!

Norm - Great childhood story of the homemade pizza crusts and family pizza nights. I love those kind of stories.

Good morning guys,

After 2-days of mid-40's over the weekend we're supposed to get into the low 60's today with sunshine. Then 60's Tuesday, before another plunge into the mid-40's Wednesday. Did I already mention something about the Midwestern Springtime Roller-Coaster?

No big plans for today. We've got our tax appointment Wednesday evening, and we still need to get down to Festus sometime to get our new glasses and return Dawn's package.

I've been doing a little research, and contemplating the possibility of entering the Senior Olympics in Track & Field this summer in St. Louis. They have age brackets for these events and I would be on the younger end of the 65 to 69-yr bracket. Looking at past times in the Sprint Events (50m,100m, 200m, 400m) in this age bracket, I think I might at least be able to be competitive. I won't know for sure until I get out on a track with someone with a stopwatch to get some preliminary times. My younger daughter the former track star (Gabe's Mom) will help me if I decide to go through with it. We'll see, just a thought right now?

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi everyone.

Beautiful out, so I cranked up the lawn mower and mowed the front yard. I supposed it looks better. Those onion grass things have been growing all winter and the yard looked awful. Also plenty of leaves all over. Now at least it's all the same height. I'm really gonna try this year to have a nice looking yard. Everyone else's yard looks nice and mine doesn't. We'll see how it goes.

Norm I was going to move to Australia in 05. The company was doing poorly and seemed like the writing was on the wall. I half jokingly told my friends I was going to move in with them and work part time, so I had enough money to drink beer and own a car. They said, when can you get here. The problem was, I had no way to store anything so I would have had to get rid of everything. There were a few things I just wasn't going to part with so I would have had to find something to do with them. And on my return, I only planned on being there a couple years, I would have had nothing. No place to live, no job, no money, it just wouldn't have worked. But I really wanted to.

Back to work tomorrow. It's been nice being home, especially since it was sprung upon me at the last minute. I've been busy the whole time and have gotten a lot done.

Okay gotta go take Mom to the doctor. Hope everyone has a good day.

Mike - I have several small patches of wild garlic/onion alongside ditch in back yard. Just yesterday I cut some leaves/blades on a plant & gnawed on them - tasty.

Chris - What don't you understand about the term retirement? That's one hell of a commitment. If you elect to pursue that path I encourage you to give it all you have - it's going to be a lot of work. What happened to golf this summer?

Good morning everyone.

Well here we are back at Big D. Feels like I never left. Apparently I didn't miss anything while I was gone, which is good. I hate missing things. It felt rather rude having to get up so early and get ready.

Norm when I was a kid my dad coated everything with spar varnish. He would do woodworking projects, and it always got spar varnish. One time I was using a friend's enclosed trailer and the plywood floor was weak, so I replaced a section of it. When I was done I thought, I can't just leave it bare plywood, so I put down a coat of spar varnish. Dad would have been proud.

We got through the shots with Tiger yesterday. But I can tell you he wasn't a happy camper. Neither was I at over 400 bucks. But it's only once a year and if I balk they won't let him board. Every time I say when I get a new dog that I'm going to do something different, and every time I go back to the same place. I'm pretty sure I won't be doing that again. This place has pretty much run its course.

Well we're off to a good start this morning, hope it keeps up. Don't know what I'll do after work, not sure if it's supposed to rain by then or wait until evening. Eh, plenty of things to do either way.

Have a good day everyone.

Mike - I've been watching the weather closely relative to finishing this side of the rear door. Tonight (tomorrow morning) you'll most likely awake to rain/thunderstorms ~2am for several hours. It will get to us here on the coast ~12 hours later, tomorrow afternoon ~2pm. I'm hoping to get the rear door outdoors in the sunlight for several hours tomorrow morning before the rain sets in.

Off to the man-cave. I haven't looked at the door, but I've already made my decision. It's getting a final 0000 steel wool sanding prior to its 3rd & final coat of Spar Urethane - one base coat of Sanding Lacquer Sealer + three coats Spar Urethane. It's a rear entrance door which gets more use than any other door in the house - it will not be perfect. Functional & usable more closely align with its final finish. Ya gotta stick a fork in it & call it done at some point. Ha!

Norm - Thanks for the encouragement if I decide to do it. I just have a big itch to do something athletically competitive. If I do it, I'm not going to go crazy training, the "quick twitch muscle" will still be there or it won't. I'm already in good (not great) shape, although losing about 7 more lbs would help, and my wind/cardio should already be fine for 400m or less. I have found out that the entire competition occurs on one day, which would probably preclude me from entering all 4 sprint events (50m, 100m, 200m, and 400m). If I did decide to enter all 4 there is approximately an hour and half recovery time between each event. The unfortunate thing is the order goes from 400 to 200 to 100 to 50, and having the 400 1st could have a significant impact on performance in the other 3. I will need to make a decision soon though, the competition is May 25th, and registration ends mid-April. First step is to get to a track and see what's left in the tank?

Chris I think you can do it. Is this an every year thing? Maybe you could enter one or two competitions your first time out and more next year. What good is all this weight lifting you do if you can't put it to good use now and then?

Norm - I can't wait to see the final product, I know it's going to be both beautiful and durable with the steps you're taking! 👍
