Mike - Thanks for the good luck wishes for Gabe. Between white knuckle driving this morning, lots of driving, and a white knuckle game this afternoon, I'm whipped! But it was a great day, I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Gabe's team lost their game this morning 4-2, which then put them in the consolation game (3rd/4th place) this afternoon at 1230. I was barely home 2-hours from the game this morning before I had to hit the road for a 1-hour drive to the game in Illinois.

To tell the truth, I was concerned about the boys having to play a 2nd game this afternoon when the team they were playing did not have to play earlier this morning. Gabe's team played great, and Gabe was incredible! His team got down 1-0 in the 1st Period, but then had an incredible spurt where Gabe had a goal and 2 assists to go ahead 3-1. The other team then came back in the 2nd Period to tie it up, and then the 2 teams traded goals thru early in the 3rd Period when it was tied 5-5. With 3 minutes left in the 3rd Gabe took a pass at center-ice and took it across the Blue Line on a 2 on one, and after he made the defenseman commit to him, he then back handed a pass to his teamate who shot. The shot went off the goalies pads, and Gabe smartly following the play to the net slapped the rebound in for the winning goal! So Gabe had 2 goals and 2 assists in a 6-5 win, doesn't get much better!

Thanks Norm, it certainly was! I think the cheerleading wears me out as much as playing. I was so proud of their team in the game this afternoon coming out with that kind of energy and hustle after playing at 0700 this morning, and that meant they had to be at the rink at 0600.

That's a lot of hockey.

Norm, that faucet is interesting. I have a delta unit with the controls on the side of the faucet. People cannot figure it's a normal faucet rotated around the Z axis 90 deg.

Friday, I went to work and got called that my half a beef was ready. So, I went to my property, checked it out, went home, got the checkbook, went to the butcher. Paid, stood in the cold, helped the kid load, tipped him, and went to grocery store. Came home, unloaded groceries. Started moving beef to the basement freezers. This was a bigger cow than last time; I put little over half the beef in the newer freezer which was empty in preparation. I then unloaded the old freezer (both are 5 cubic foot chests) and put all the new beef on the bottom, and then what I could fit of what was in there (it was 7/8ths full originally) of the previous beef and venison and turkey in there. So, both freezers are now damn full and I have a lot left over.

Haul it all upstairs and start methodically packing the refrigerator freezer. I got all the beef in there, but any frozen leftovers, waffles, broth, bread, whatever got bumped to the fridge side, or the "freezer" of my collegiate dorm fridge, which was previously in service for the thermostat issue last month. I am in Beef Overload and am eating my leftovers up. If this had been untenable, I would have taken coolers to the new property and powered up its fridge and put it there. After that, I knew rain was coming, so I did a redneck gutter cleaning by putting a ladder up to each downspout and pulling the debris off the screen. This works for a couple weeks, I need to get up there and really clean here shortly.

Rained all day yesterday, and I woke up with a sore throat that is now a quick cold. Already into the hocking up stuff phase. This is strange because I had not interacted with anyone for a few days before Friday, yet was ill on Sat. Colds aren't normally that fast. Oh well, maybe I'll get over it sooner. Snowed this AM a few inches. We may get more Tues.

Yes.

I watched that video. I guess I am qualified to be a youtube content creator. They muddled through a car wash and cleaning and getting an Olds running. Those kids are dumb as ****.

John - Likely a Rhinovirus - the greatest number of biological entities on the planet Earth. They exist everywhere, basically you can’t avoid them. Thing about viruses is they attach to literally everything, that includes atmospheric dust particles which are swept about the planet via jet streams & all atmospheric bodies e.g. updrafts/downdrafts. The great peculiarity about Rhinoviria is we don’t know their origin. Theories abound….

Thanks for the congrats Dan. Don't leave out the cap, I had their cap on too! I almost always wear my Wolverine gear to their games, for sure my Michigan ball cap. However, after their loss Sunday morning, I thought we needed a change, so I donned my Sparty gear. Hell, Sparty is ranked #2 in the nation in Div 1 hockey so I thought why not? With the way the game went, I was glad I made the change!
I won't be changing back anytime soon after that performance!

Good morning everyone.

Now that really felt like a long weekend. I think my next extended time off will be next month when I'm on vacation. I enjoy going to Australia but I need a break once I get back. That's a tough trip.

Well I survived the dentist yesterday. Barely. I don't know why I thought it would be as simple as getting my broken tooth fixed. Oh no, since "I hadn't been to the dentist for awhile" they couldn't do a regular cleaning and checkup and fix my tooth, they took a bunch of Xrays(which I expected) and have to schedule some special cleaning they have to do in stages, then they can think about fixing my tooth. I think it's all a bunch of bunk. My last dentist was the same way, oh you haven't been here in how long? You're going to need this and this and this, before he even took the first look.

I signed the same amount of wheels in this first hour as I signed all day on Friday. Five. I'm leaving at lunch today to go see my ortho. Gonna be nice but cold, rain tomorrow. Eh.

Okay have a good day everyone.

Mike - I suspect they're going to perform a scaling (root planing=deep cleaning) removing plaque/tartar to prevent periodontal disease. It's often performed in four sittings - scaling/planing 1/4 of your pearly whites each sitting. They'll very lightly numb only your gums to scrape/scale/remove plaque/tartar. I had it done when I was ~45 yrs - 50 yrs of age.

Mike - When they probe your teeth they're looking for deep pockets most often >5mm deep. Healthy readings range from one to three millimeters. Deep pockets can harbor bad bacteria and slowly degrade your gums & roots which can lead to periodontal disease which often renders very bad mojo as you age yielding to many tooth extractions &/or visits to an endodontist.

Good morning guys,

Mike - Sorry about the tough trip to the dentist. Norm's right though, better to get it taken care of now and avoid MAJOR issues down the road.

Very cold here, 7° at 0700, and flurries. Not supposed to get above 14° today, and the weatherman is calling for 4 to 8-inches of snow thru mid-day tomorrow. Highs in the teens and lows in the single digits for the next 3-days, so whatever snow we get is not going to be melting off soon. I'm sure glad I got into the Social Security Office several days ahead of my previously scheduled appointment, which would have been this morning. I'm sure the Secondary roads are slick, ours is snow covered, and the chemicals don't work worth a crap when it's this cold. Don't know how much snow Dan, Greg, an Keith are gonna get out of this system, but I see it's gonna be super cold up there!

The bracket has been posted for Gabe's end of the season League Tournament. There are 12 teams in his League and his team is seeded 5th based on record. The top 4 seeds get byes in the 1st round, which would have been nice, but it is what it is. It is a single elimination tournament. His team's first game is Saturday morning at 0800 against the 12th seed which they should win. Their 2nd game will be 8pm Saturday evening if they win Saturday morning. They would then play Semi-Final and Championship games on Sunday if they keep winning. They can win this thing if they play their best hockey. They played the #1 seeded team to a 1-1 tie just a couple weeks ago.

Hope everyone has a great day, and be careful if you have to be out on the roads if you're in the great white north or midwest.

Hi guys,

Wow, everyone disappeared. I hope it's not because anyone is having severe weather. The snow we were supposed to start getting around noon has not materialized yet, but the weatherman is still saying it's coming this evening into tomorrow morning, guess we'll see?

My Medicare Card for Parts A/B came today, Woo-hoo! Now I can call and get a Medicare Part C Advantage Plan. I already have one picked out thru Aetna, who is also the provider of my Federal Employee Health Care (FEHB) Insurance, which I have to keep for now because Dawn is not eligible for Medicare. The great thing about this Aetna Part C Advantage Plan is that because I am continuing my regular FEHB insurance with them, their Advantage Plan will cost me $0, I should never have any co-pays or deductibles for anything, plus they will reimburse me $100 per month to go towards my monthly $185 Part B Premium. I know this sounds too good to be true, but it really does work that way.

Hope ya'll are staying warm and safe!

This is the opposite side of the same door - trending in a positive direction. I've yet to determine what I intend to do regarding removal of paint in the recessed area(s) & the edging/ridges (routing). I may have a correctly sized router bit or I may not. I have options though. The challenge (I think) is going to be routing around the glass window panes. I'll need to establish a sturdy platform/jig/fence - the slightest dip/error in movement might find me replacing glass panes. I've spent significant time cleaning/restoring/lubricating/oiling all my woodworking tools - I have many. Dismantled & cleaned the entire router table. I won't be using the table. I still have to see what if any free-hand router jigs/fences I have.

Prepared things for a 48 hr. deep-freeze as this front moves through - rain, freezing rain & snow possible beginning tonight.

Glad the socialized medicine is being social.

Cold or rhino liner or whatever it is is not going away fast. I am in Day 2 of the full nasty, so I hope to improve tomorrow. Snowed this AM a bit. Melted some off the drive. Supposedly 'The Main Event' referred to with the wrestlemania let's get ready to rumble song should start here shortly. I put the trash in the bin and got the mail.

I've learned way too much about postage. The H/OCA ships Thunder & Lightning, which is our bimonthly newsletter on the appropriate schedule. We are trying to save money. We stopped the international shipping with some grumbling. I had to rebuild the front page to fit the addressing service's printer. The idea is our print shop makes and assembles the issues, the addresser loads them into a super inkjet which prints each address on them. We used to do stamps and hand label. We then went to first class with the service's permit, and that, plus their fee, minus the slightly less postage, was a cost up.

Next step was Standard permit, but with return service requested. This is something called an ancillary endorsement of which there are several. This saved money, but the return method sucked, as we thought they'd go to the return address with a request for money. They don't; they get held across town in the central post office. No bueno. Also, some people had forwarding set up, and that didn't go.

After talking with the post office, like literally a person in Indy, I think the solution is to go standard permit, forwarding service requested, and no return address. This will get it to a correct address, or forward it (with the member on the hook for that cost) or become dead mail. No cost or hassle to us. We will print a few extra copies, and, if a member does not get one, we are doing various campaigns to tell them to email us, and we will stamp mail just the one first class. This will save us a few hundred dollars each issue.

Norm - The areas you've stripped so far look great. The recessed areas will be a bugger for sure. I asked my wife what method she's had the best luck with stripping areas like you have left to do. She said she's tried about everything at one time or another, different types of sanders, heat gun, router, etc., but she's had the best luck using a high quality stripping agent, correct size scrapers, soft wire brushes, and alot of elbow grease. She thinks doing it the hard way is the only real way to avoid a potential catastrophe of a major gouge in the wood or a broken pane. Good luck!

Here's the stripping agent she uses.

John - Sounds like you've been through the ringer trying to get your H/OCA mag out to your members, a real PIA to be sure. I hope the newest level of postage you've decided on solves the hassles! 🤞

Chris - Thanks. I've used that product with some success on larger pieces. I'd hate to work in the plant(s) where they make that stuff - basically chlorine + methanol & the process of making it is highly explosive. BTW, there is no reason I have to maintain the same router bit profile on the panels - I might fashion a new profile. I have options.
I picked up a dozen new sponge/foam brushes & a new pint of Mahogany stain. Baby steps.

A couple of inches of snow, a little cool. The issues of JWO have been late arriving for myself and several other members of the OCA, a month behind since November. I haven't got my January issue yet. Not going to bother to renew if this keeps up. Norm. I had one of those 15 pane doors at my old house. The inspector was having a close look a few years back.

If you were in an airplane which rolled over sideways, landed on its roof and walked away to talk about it you should purchase a lottery ticket.

I don't know much about flying, but I believe that small planes are much more flyable and landable without power in terms of walking away. I saw some video about some girl soloing who panicked, lost her engine, and came down into a tree, which deposited the totaled plane right side up into a parking lot.

The post office is jacked up. Our addresser left details off the labels, so, the people that missed it, and needed to renew, got a postcard to renew from me. I sent one to our director as it was his car on the picture, and one to me, and mine never arrived.

I think we are turning into a 3rd world country as we emphasize anything but competence in the workplace.

When the flight attendants were all screaming evacuate, I'll bet 1/2 the passengers evacuated in their pants before they left the aircraft.

-23 In Richland Center this am. New record low. -12 here. We had 4-5 inches of fresh snow Friday thru Sunday so it is a freezer out there

The door is looking very nice Norm, moving right along.

Chris I wish Gabe all the best in the upcoming tournament. I have a feeling they will finish up holding their heads high.

I thought this was a pretty cool tool Norm, Chris, and Dawn.

Keith - You should see the industrial paint shaver I own ($995). It can cut down a tree - spins @ 10,000 RPM - Hitachi. I have the exact same paint stripper cornering tool w/ the triple blades, but it isn't a power tool.

Man Keith, that is some brutal cold! I think it's supposed to get down to around 3° or 4° here overnight which is really frigid for us. Thanks for the well wishes for Gabe's team in the upcoming tournament, they are much appreciated!
