Norm - I agree many pastas are better the next day. Sorry you're feeling so lousy, I'm assuming you think it's from the flu vaccine. Hopefully you'll get a good night's sleep and it'll be gone in the morning. 🤞

Chris - Yeah, influenza vaccine. SARS-CoV-2 vaccine I had three weeks ago. I had the Fluad Trivalent Geezer Pleaser.

Found a place to store the '72. $300.00 for the winter. Very good price. I should have it back tomorrow, as it's getting the front end rebuilt. Ordered a car cover from California Car Covers. 2-3 weeks for delivery. Wanted to go out a try to get some pics of the comet, but I'm too damn tired. Had a headache most of the day, Motrin, and a few hours later Aleve. Didn't do **** for it. Jim, I hope all goes well for you with your upcoming procedure.

Dan - That's a good deal on storage - what ~$50/mo.? Sweet. I've heard good things about CalCarCover. I might have bought something from them at one time. Can't recall what I had for breakfast.

Kenneth - My wife is nothing but persistent. I believe I've said before that she has a pretty sophisticated camera on her phone. Her camera has a Special Night Mode that she used to get these pics. These pictures were taken after it was completely dark, although it doesn't look like it. The comet is in the West/Southwest over the roof of our next door neighbor's house. Pics were taken between 7:30 and 7:50pm CDT.

Norm, I've made several purchases in the past from CalCovers. I have a wore out cover on the '69 that is probably 15 years old. Chris, nice pics of the comet.

I need a new phone. Running on a five year old S10.

I think this car cover I got with the 68 is a California car cover. Better unfold it and look.

I looked at the 68's tires tonight. Very low miles. There's a dent in the rubber of the spare due to the jack. It still has a little blue on the white line. 1998 tire. The ground tires are 2005. They're all Kelsey Coker Goodyear Polyglas repro bias. I think the car was restored in 98 and had new tires put on it, of which the spare remains. I think they drove approx 15k miles, wore those biased tires out, and replaced the ground tires in 05, then went to Olds nationals in 06. There are not many miles on the 05 tires. This seems to match the current odometer, and the pictures of the restoration, the odometer then, and the personalized plates, which point to a CA restoration in about 98, which, oddly, was about when my 72 got repainted.

I will drive on these biaseds a little. I think I will put them on the original paint rims and sit aside for if I ever do a serious, trailered show. The new tires will go on the restored rims for some amount of driving.

Good morning everyone.

Twelve wheels by break, pretty good. I like to have 10, so we're ahead of the game.

Norm I would never knock the dog **** out of you. Years of manipulation and mind games are more my thing.

Chris those pictures look like the comet is right at the rooftops.

Errands this afternoon include paying the car insurance on the Fiat. I decided I better hold off on selling that guy, as it's the only dependable ride I have at the moment. Of course there's always the SRX but I don't want to pile up the miles on it. I also have to get some more medicine for Tiger. The apoquil has been marginal at best. In the beginning it worked fairly well for the first few hours but then wore off. At the end of two weeks it does pretty much nothing. It worked for him last year, I wonder what's different.

John my phone is about 5 years old as well. It's an LG G8 ThinQ. I think it's supposed to be pronounced "think." Been a good phone but it's a short timer I'm afraid. The battery lasts no more than a day, and not long ago I dropped it and now it has all these little cracks on the screen. I hate to spend 800 bucks on a new one, especially since LG doesn't make phones anymore. And it wouldn't break my heart to jump off the Verizon ship.

First day of the winter season that I wore a jacket in to work. I'm sad. I hold out as long as possible but it seemed extra chilly this morning. Mom got heat in the house and she is so happy now. It was 64 in my house this morning, no need for the furnace yet. I have these flannel heavy shirts I wear, they keep me nice and comfy.

Okay back to work. Hump Day everyone. Have a good one.

Good morning guys,

It was only 42° at 0900 and headed toward a high of only 61°, beautiful sunshine though, and the leaves are starting to change. Forecasting a low of 31° overnight tonight, too damn cold!

Got to get out to the garage and get going on detailing the car for the big Show this weekend.

Hope everyone has a great day!

My phone is around 9 years old. I recently replaced the battery due to the original discharging in a day or less. The new battery was something like 50% more capacity than the original, I suspect due to advances in battery technology. Now it's good for another 9-10 years.

Batteries lose energy capacity over time, plus I think cell phone companies push updates to make your phone suck. My S5 I had to use developer tools to shut the gps off unless I needed it otherwise it would use battery heavily near the end.

Spoke with Diamondback Tires. They need the stripe width and the measurement, with a bendy metal ruler, from edge of the mounter rim (not the bead, or the inner hole, or the trim ring.) I told him I'd order in the spring. He recommended specials in January. The Diamondback III is a BFG Radial T/A that gets assaulted then vulcanized. I like the BFG, and this is a pretty comprehensive response to the raised brown letter problem.

John - Are you talking about ordering white or red thin line Diamondbacks? JMO, I don't like the look of white or red thin lines on the 60's and 70's muscle cars, I'd rather have the raised white letters. Since you're saving the Polyglass repros for the original style wheels for a true OEM look, I'd buy some brand of raised white letter for everyday and save a ton of bucks over the Diamondbacks. Just my 2-cents.

P.S., I like the looks of the Milestar Street Steel raised white letters. I might buy those next for my repro 15-inch SSI wheels that I'm running right now.

So, I go online to get tips on taking pics of the comet. I set my camera up so I don't have to hassle with it on site. I used a high ISO (3200). The comet would be visible right after sunset they said (in another part of the country maybe). The good news, the comet was visible to the north of the setting sun, the bad news, I was set up for after sun set ya know...dark, and didn't think to change my settings, so, no pics. I was using my 18-270mm lense, as most articles were suggesting 50-120mm for the shots. The comet was just to distant. I went back to my car roughly 100' away and grabbed my 150-600mm lense, mounted it to the camera, and the comet was gone with the sunset. I thought that it would be higher in the sky, perhaps this past weekend or Monday or yesterday would have been smarter on my part. I'll get it next time.....in 80,000 years.

Chris the comet was to the right of the lighthouse, between it and the right edge of the pic. Visible to the naked eye. Still cool, and i was glad that I got out, a beautiful night, with fall in the air (48°) The full moon came up behind me, and was great as well, but street lights would have messed up any shot.

I don't think I'll ever go to that kind of a show for those biaseds. It's just something to do with them. This car might drive to a local H/OCA nationals, so I would want radials that looked correct for that show. Plus, I like the white line on that year H/O because they were a little more restrained with the paint job. It's like, in a 68 H/O, you stop at a good hotel you know for a room for some spur of the moment whoopee; in a 69, 72, or 73, you just pull into a scenic overlook and do her over the decklid.

Another coworker just sent me these pictures she took of the comet with her phone. Dang, the new phones take better pictures than my old phone using the binoculars for magnification.

Yes, the better quality new phones certainly have higher quality cameras. My wife got a few more nice shots this evening, but I won't bore everyone else with more shots.

When I think of comets (and asteroids) I recall college physics. I didn't take college Astronomy but Univ. of Illinois did have an Astronomy Dep't. I nearly failed college Physics - it was very hard & I was not prepared for the level of preparedness required in all aspects of college Physics. Certain areas requiring advanced mathematics & trigonometry fell far outside my preferred skirt-chasing curricula. One area I became extraordinarily fascinated w/ was Astronomy - most likely the one area of Physics which saved my *** from failure. I was reading Plato's Republic at the time which helped foster my proclivity for Astronomy. Studying the foundations & theories of Earth, Fire & Air (Plato, Aristotle, etc.), flat Earth, geocentric vs. heliocentric Universe theories/models, culminating in the Copernicus Revolution I loved the adventure of acquiring more knowledge about Copernicus. I honestly felt I had achieved a true paradigm. We no longer think of comets/asteroids as windy exhalations from Earth which catch fire in the atmosphere (Aristotle). Times have changed.

Norm - Boy does this post bring back memories . . . bad ones! I was never in jeopardy of failing my 2 Semesters of College Physics, but I struggled mightily to get a straight "B". We had 2 different paths for the 2 intro level Physics courses. One path was Algebra/Trigonometry based, the other Calculus based. We were told the Calculus based courses were easier simply by the nature of the equations, IF, you knew Calculus. I had just started my 1st Semester of Calculus, so I had to take the Algebra/Trigonometry based route. Between 2 Semesters in a row (Sophomore year) with both Physics and Calculus I about lost my mind. With football essentially being all year round between the regular season and off-season weight training and conditioning, it seriously cut into my skirt chasing and beer drinking time. It was all I could do to keep my head above water.

I didn't particularly care for Trigonometry in either H.S. or college. I muddled through. My college Physics I thought was primarily Calculus-based; yet, I didn't find much about that Physics course to be Calculus-based - I thought it was more Trig/Algebra based - confused the heck out of me. I never thought I had an issue finding the dot on a line, area under a curve or slope of a line (rates in general) - I just sure the heck wasn't finding much of that in the Physics course I enrolled in.

Tee-time @ 1:30pm but driving range is closed between 10am - 2pm for some reason. High expected ~65° w/ a wind ~12mph from NNE gusting higher, of course. Clear sunny skies - a tad on the crispy side w/ the wind so a long-sleeved thermal undershirt will be welcomed.

Only played 9 holes - other two guys weren't up for 18. No worries - aside from the wind creating a little chill, very pleasant playing conditions. Only hit a couple errant shots. Was striking the ball really, really well - almost laughable I didn't shoot under par. That's golf.

Norm - Glad you had a nice afternoon out on the course, too bad the others didn't want to continue.

Had PT this morning and then came home and started in on my car detailing for the Big Show this weekend. Got everything done now except the wheels which I'm planning on doing in the morning. I'm pooped, my therapist really put me thru the wringer today. Good news is I believe I'm finally starting to notice positive results, more range of motion and less soreness/pain.

Thursday Night Football tonight, Saints and the Broncos, that's what I'll be watching.

Hope everyone had a great day and has a relaxing evening!

I might try to watch the game if I can find it for free.

Flashback:

I was Marshal Chairperson for Greenbrier Classic (holes 15,16,17) for several years managing ~120 Marshal volunteers beginning in 2012. During the 2013 Greenbrier Classic low & behold who do I see walking up the 17th fairway carrying the bag for Ryan Palmer? Sean Payton. A gnarly grin came over my face. That was pretty cool. I was around the 17th green when the group arrived and Sean put Ryan's bag down about 10' from where I was standing. Hell, seems everyone but me knew he & Ryan were teamed up for the week. Long story on how they teamed up but it made for an interesting sight for me to see.
