LOUDMOUTH Tail Pipes. Holy Cow!
LOUDMOUTH Tail Pipes. Holy Cow!
I bought a 2009 Mustang GT last week, sight unseen from one of those famous on line Car Selling sites, from a fairly large dealer in the midwest. I understood I was taking a risk in buying it sight unseen and/or hiring a service to inspect it. I asked the dealer more than several times, is the car bone stock, which is what I was after. Specifically, was the exhaust and the suspension stock as I could not really tell from the photos. I really wanted this one, as it had 4 of the items i wanted: Automatic (so the wife can drive it, Power Driver AND power passenger seats, so she can see out of it, heated seats, and low mileage. And it was that really dark metallic read.
This car had 38,000 and I got a decent price on it, so I bought it. Upon delivery, I started it up and HOLY S**T was it ridiculously LOUD! Dang, when I was 19 that was cool, but those days are long gone. Also, it has a full Eibach lowering suspension system in it. Turns out I really liked that so no blood there. But that exhaust had to go, whatever was causing it was causing really bad low RPM cabin drone. I lucked out here as all I had to do was replace the muffler-less tails with a set of NOS ford mufflers and in an hour I had back the factory-sounding exhaust.
Moral of the story is, I took a real chance buying this car sight unseen, and I got really, really lucky on this purchase. If you can't get out and see a car, hire a service to inspect it, hands down the prudent thing to do. I was fortunate the tails were the only thing that was done to modify this exhaust system. Had it been more than that, I was looking at a big bill. As for the suspension, well, someone spent alot of money on those upgrades and they are not that old, so I made out really nicely there. That was pure luck.
The good outweighed the bad on this deal. This time.

Wayal... in dealer's defense, so many late-model Mustangs have that obnoxiously loud aftermarket exhaust the dealer may have thought it WAS stock!😄
I tell young people anytime that what's cool when you're 20 ain't cool from **** by the time you're 30. I've had more than one come back and tell me I was right. Usually involved tattoos... but obnoxiously loud exhaust is right there with it.

We need video if possible of loud exhaust, lol!
My father bought a 71 Corvette 6 months old when he was in the Air Force. Got a good deal, put on different mirrors, capacitive discharge ignition, and, relevant to the discussion, cherry bombs.
50 years later, he is still here, the car is still here, and the cherry bombs, while still here, are probably now straight pipes as I bet the glass packing has left the building. On a test drive this weekend, I could hear him a mile away.
I agree with the man from Virginia, a lot of Mustangs ARE obnoxious. But, they are good, affordable power. Have fun.

Even if you find the perfect car, if you don't pick it up, it can get damaged in transport, happened to my BIL, twice! He also bought one that looked great in pictures. Went to see in person, orange peel city, canceled the deal. Yeah sounds like a nice car, loud exhaust gets old fast. Any reason you went with a 4.6 vs the much more potent 5.0 Coyote? Post pics.
