I'm so Proud
Sometimes out of the blue, things just happen? Yesterday my son came home from school and handed me a wad of stapled 8X10 papers.
"Guess what Dad? I've been asked to represent the school in the Provincial Challenge for Archtecture. I need you to sign these releases if you're ok with it".
Me ok with it? You must be nuts! I'm GREAT with it!!! My little boy isn't so little anymore. Turns out only 3 schools in the GER can submit a candidate for this honor; mostly because only 3 of them offer the courses. Only 1 candidate from each school is chosen. Granted, he was second in line, but the first person didn't have confidence in themself and backed out. So he's going. This is a 2 1/2 day testing process; and he's still responsible to keep up with normal school work. No matter how it turns out, I couldn't be prouder.
I'm confident he will do well because he's actually been mentoring some of the Grade 10=12 kids who are struggling. His teacher and him are on 'first name basis' and obviously his talents are being noticed.
If he is in the top 2 he will go on to the National competition. I'm blown away, and did I mention? I'm so proud of him I could bust a seam!!

Seriously though, great for him (and you). Best of luck to him!

Thanks guys!
LOL. Yeah, the papers were described wrong. It was a stack of (12 pages) that were 8 1/2" X 11" (normal letter size) sheets with the School and Provincial Skills Letterheads outlining the competition, rules/standards expectations, timelines and permissions. It was like going through a legal document, but without the lawyer and legalese. Everything was handed in today and faxed to the coordination center. The School will keep us informed as the dates draw closer. Apparently they also will be sending him a book of information he needs to study. I think it's like the 'Coles Notes' we used to use back in the day. A summary of all important stuff. You fill in the blanks with knowledge you've already got.

for you and your son. You should take a bow as well as your son. You obviously gave him the guidance and showed him the path and he is taking that guidance and running with it. It doesn't get any better than that in life.... Kudo's
Congrats to both "YOU" and your "SON"..... to your son for his great educational attributes, and to you as well, since IMO, in today's society and the peer pressures that exist, it takes a good/attentive parent to raise a good child..........

Holy Socks! Hadn't seen all the replies to this. Yes, it's a great feeling. He's still being quite low key about it, but I can tell he's a excited down deep.
Pat, funny you should say that. He's already been toying with designing me a new house! Only thing is I told him to wait till after he's finished his Architectural Design Studies in College. By then he might have learned to listen to his "Tiny Dad". I say that because I'm 5'11" and he's 6'3" and still growing. He calls me his 'Tiny Dad'. I'm good with that because he still hasn't lost that innocence of youth; and heck, he's right

I'm very happy for you Allen .... 5' 11" huh , you are 1 1/2" taller then me
. I think my boy is gonna hit 6' , he's growing like a weed . I wish I could do more for him , this ADHD/Anxiety crap makes that really tough ! He is a real smart kid , every test he takes he gets an advanced grade . If I could only get him to listen , half our troubles would be gone .... my daughter on the other hand is getting A's and B's and seems to be doing ok so far . I noticed she has the common outbreaks that are associated with ADD , but seems to be doing ok so far.
