Damn did this bring back memories. I aced the test btw and I'm not even close to 60, lucky I guess. I had those horse shoes on my 61 Dynamic 88, too funny. I think the gas was 32-34 cents then. I was outraged when the first Gulf Oil Crisis hit in 1974. I just turned 16 and got my license. I was making $1.40 an hour and thought I was doing good because the minimum was $1.35. Gas went to 65 cents a gallon. Trying to feed the 70 Toronado wasn't easy. Probably why I had three jobs.
Cops in my town had the Plymouth Fury III's. Could always tell them by their parking lights, close together in the middle of the bumper. Man the stuff we got away with would put you in jail now. Was like American Graffiti all over again. If you ever got a look inside one of them they had a fast idle pull switch under the dash so the engine wouldn't load up when idling for a long period. Couldn't miss that 440 sound either when they got on it.

There's not much I wouldn't change. Not saying my life's been cr@p, it just coulld have been soooo much better now that I have the benefit of 20/20 hindsight.

The very reason I've always loved American cars is the sound they make. We didn't really have that down here when I was a little bloke. Grandparents next door neighbour had a Ford Customline and I can remember the sound it made as it rumbled down the driveway between their houses. For the most part though people drove six or four cylinder cars.
One day I was watching a black & white TV movie with a US Police car idling on the side of some highway waiting for a whisky runner to come flying through. It was a Plymouth and I decided there and then I would have one one day and it would sound the same.
My 69 Road Runner 440 six pack did just that. I still love Plymouths and maybe one day I'll get another one. But right now I'm loving the noise a big block Oldsmobile makes.

Well the other evening I'm at the Subway paying my bill and the girl didn't give me my discount! I said, "the discount is 44 cents! That's not chump change!" The sweet young thing said, "I'm sorry sir, you don't look 60!"

I told her that I'm going to be 80 in a couple of months. She said that her great-grandfather wasn't that old!

Well I grabbed my Cold Cut Combo and stomped out.

That's all I have right now! Pat beat me to it!

He cruises the retirement homes for really old cougars.
Why do they call guys with much younger women "cradle robbers" and women with younger guys "Cougars"???
If the old broad...err..."lady" has a lot of money and buys the guy everything he wants I call those manly men "My Hero".

I haven't driven the GTO much since the Vista's been finished, new toy.
I have a hard enough time keeping any the gas in the gas hogs, the GTO gets way better mileage, weight and gear ratio means a lot.
Goat is on on the lift above the Vista and it's pain to get it ready taking it down and all that. If I had a two car garage and could just jump in and take off I would drive it a lot more. A garage expansion is the next project, problem is I would have to sell a car to afford it and then I wouldn't need it, the good old Catch-22 situation.

Maybe when summer rolls around the cars will swap places. That GTO is a fine looking automobile.
I cashed in some of my long service leave a few years ago & built a 50' x 30' shed so I could restore my old 46 Ford Truck (and a part for the she boss to keep her horse float & tractor).
Had nothing left to spend on the truck so I wound up selling it. Big shed, no car. Catch 22 like you said.

There is always that statement I hear a lot , "you are only as old as you feel", and I have to really think about just how old I feel?
being born in 58 puts me a little behind some of you guys but I have a sense that I am miles ahead of some when it comes to how old you feel. being a good Canuk I played hockey up to junior and then a little in senior mens hockey , I was 19. At 5'10" and 155 lbs I was an unlikely type to lead my team in penalty minutes but I did just that from about midget hockey on. A blown out knee convinced me to give up hockey. I was not an office job type so did mostly hands on labor jobs and outdoors whenever possible. I hurt my back in the late 80's and things have been going downhill since , though I continued doing hard jobs. The last one i should not have been doing but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to pay bills. Added some more injuries there , the neck being the worst. Now with a steel plate holding that together the next may be the lower back that I have been carrying around for 20+ years. I have some arthritis in my spine , and my knees as well as some fingers and toes.I am having lots of problems with my shoulders right now , probably tendonitis in both shoulders and elbows, but the specialist here is taking way longer than the neurologist. next doctors appointment I am going to have to request an x-ray on my hip as it has been giving me a lot of trouble lately. I have always had a little limp due to my lower back being out of wack ( vertabrae slipped forward and to one side) and now it may be a little arthritic as well.
So to answer the question "you are only as old as you feel" it depends on how I feel that day , is there a lot of humidity? is my current medication working as it should , what did I do yesterday to make me feel crappy today?
I hear you Blk 71SX when you say that you wish you knew. You know what i think I would still have played hockey and other sports that I did. And still had outdoor types of jobs cause thats just me , maybe i would be a little smarter about it though.

only read the first page of this long thread but man it made me feel young lol. Born in 1983 (year of the 15th anniversary hurst/olds), grunge rock was popular when i was growing up and metallica and guns and roses was awesome. but i do remember why i love the 442's oh so much. the year was 1993 and demolition man came up in the theaters, that sucker hit VHS and i watched it in awe at the end when they had that sexy *** 1970 442, ever since then i have always wanted one lol. now i am 26 and have overachieved this goal by getting the hurst olds i now have today...

When I was 26 (1957) I had my first house built and I was driving a 1953 Ford Sunliner Convertible and a 1948 MG-TC roadster. Two rag-tops!

But, you're a really ambitious, hard working, guy to get your "Dream Car" at such a young age!

lol i think i might be the youngest person with a 69 hurst olds. now the fun part is getting the damn thing to run properly ><. and i prolly would have a house but with the chances of moving while being in the military is pretty good so buying a house seems worthless to me. unless i buy one back home but then i would just be paying off a house and not living in it lol.

My mother in law did that before see died of cancer some 20 years ago. I thought it was odd at the time, but who knows your life better then you. If fact you could always make it better then it actually was. ummmm.... not a bad idea

Ain't that the truth. She sure does remember everything I ever did wrong in the 43 years I have been married to her and only a few of the things I did right. She reminds me from time to time of the wrong things, In fact that's how she keeps track of dates. (her) "We went to that park in 1973 I remember that because you ran over that sigh and put a tear in the side of the motorhome". I get lots of those.

I'll be dead long before my wife who goes to the gym every day including boot-camp sessions at 6am EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. 56 push-ups a minute (proper ones) and can run a half marathon.
Me,...I need to take a break when I put the garbage out.
I haven't written my own obituary (although not a bad idea Pat) but I have requested a specific type of grave which she tells me I can't have.
I want a small pyramid, say 7' x 7' x 7'high (nothing outlandish). I mean, how long has it been since someone had a pyramid as a "headstone"? And the kids could climb on it while their parents were tidying up granpa's plot and dusting off the plastic flowers. Done right we could both fit under there when it was her time to go. A couple of cubic metres of concrete. Probably cheaper than a marble tombstone and all the other stuff.
She refuses to be part of it. Is it that big an ask?
I never get my way in life. Looks like nothing's gonna change thereafter.

It's concrete, about nine feet high, supposed to have something to do with his National Treasure movies dollar bill pyramid logo.

They would probably think it was donut and you were a cop though.

Looks like its cremation for me then. I'll have to spend some time deciding where I want to be sprinkled.
On another note and being light years behind most technically savvy folks I have just discovered how to get radio stations from abroard specialising in music I like. I'm currently listening to "Ambiance", a smooth jazz station broadcasting from somewhere in the mountains in Colorado. Excellent if you like cool background music.
