I had a nice Victorinox swiss army knife. I gave it to nephew Owen when he earned his "totin chip" from the boy scouts.
These days I have "pocket knife" and a Leatherman multi tool close at hand

i always carry the small swiss army knife in my pocket ,its so small you dont notice its there and its amazing the things i use it for. its so sharp ive cut carpet with it works good on screws phillips or regular (within reason of course)has the toothpick for that pesky beef jerky ,very sharp scissors for a multitude of uses, as well as tweezers for countless slivers.

I carried a Schrade for years. It was a carbon steel stock knife and would hold a edge forever. I replaced it with a Schrade Walton but it was stainless and was nothing special. I still miss that Schrade to this day.... Tedd

Kershaw...like a Leek...really nice knives made in USA, maybe $50-75. They are spring assisted and open like a switch blade...one handed and lightning FAST! That big buck knife is crazy $. Then...you have to pay ANOTHER $11.00 for the Snake Eye to clean it. That's nuts!

Same here. I have a dozen or more pocket knives, including some really nice Kershaw lock-back models, but the small Swiss Army is the one I carry most often for the same reasons you said.

I use my Victorinox for everything: cutting wire, removing machine screws from radars, scrapping dog poo of of my boots, cutting my apple at lunch.

At a coffee and friends meeting a couple years ago I was asked by a friend if he could borrow my knife to cut up some cake his his wife had brought for us. He remarked how sharp it was, I replied yes my dad and I castrated 5 sheep yesterday..... True story... It still surprises me how few people carry knives anymore and those people always know you do and want to borrow yours...... Tedd

NICE

I bought a couple Leatherman REBAR tools in black finish
I do not want to be without one if the other is lost along the way or "borrowed"

I like Benchmade knives, ergonomics of the handle, variety of quality steel for the blade, strong locking mechanism (axis lock) and lifetime warranty.

100% Made in USA.

Prior to the new cannabis laws put in place here in Canada. If you had any kind of criminal record, you had to be careful just carrying a pea-shooter with you.
Forget pulling a knife out to cut your apple while waiting at the bus stop.
Being caught carrying a knife here with the slightest resistance ( due to carrying a few rockets & a stagger from a little wobbly pop ) would get you a Billy Club beating with cut up wrists from the hand cuffs haha.
I don't re-call this first hand, but I do know, the scars on my wrists haven't faded away yet.

Eric

The best pocket knife is the one in your pocket when you need it.

edzolz, I don't see how you put the Case and Barlow in the same category. The Case is a premium knife for sure and the Barlow is more of an entry level knife of pretty good quality. I had lots of Barlow knives when I was a kid and now carry a small 2 blade case. There used to be a cartoon character who had a Barlow knife. Who was he?
