Leaky Top

Interested in a 1970 Cutlass Convertible, but am told the top leaks near the back of the car (Between where the top goes and the trunk starts). I was told this was a fairly common problem. Something about a plastic trough that can be adjused to help redirect the rainwater. Any truth to this? Obviously I will check for water damage/rust behind the back seats. Responses appreciated.

There is indeed a plastic trough. What usually happens is that the plastic tabs break or strip through the screws holding it and it droops down. Check the trough with the top up and a flashlight. Look for rust in the trunk floorpan and under the spare tire (especially if it has a carpet or rubber mat) and the hollows behind the fenderwells.

Hey, is that plastic trough called the "well liner"?

Naw...a well liner is the big "bag" that the top lowers into. The plastic trough is called a "rain gutter".

Now that you mention the Black bag liner, which side is visible from inside the car? The Black leather or the back of the leather. I am not sure mine is installed correctly.
