Taking the body off for new mounts on 64 cutlass vert

Can anyone here tell me where the body mounts are located and how you access them on a 64 cutlass convertible? I have been all under my car from front to back and only see one on each side of the gas tank and under the radiator suport. HELP??

There are round holes in the bottom of the frame. They lead to the body mount bolts. They are pretty easy to see.

I see your pic but my frame has no holes except the ones behind the rear axle as you have circled. Also my frame is alot wider along the center section as it looks like 2 frames side by side. If I knew how to post a pic I would take one and show what i have.

It has to have access holes in it, unless someone welded them up. I cant see why someone would do that however. The round holes in the frame are where the mounts are located.

Your right TK someone did weld new metal over them,I just took pics and sent to gearheads78. So more unexpexted work for me that the previous owner failed to mention. Why can't people be honest when selling a car?

This is not good. Looks like your frame was rusty and sagging and they just welded iron over it.

WOW thats one way to do it.

Looks like the only way this body is coming off the frame is to cut through the mounts with a sawsall and then get a new frame.

Why didnt you look under it to see that it has a frankenstein frame under it? Verts are notorious for having rotted frames. That wouldve been the first place I looked.

Id abandon the body mount project and just leave the car alone. The frame is shot and theres no telling what else is wrong with it. Save your money and just enjoy it as is.

I always thought that convertible frames are boxed in like that from the factory? -- the 67 vert I had looked exactly like the pix posted above? Maybe mine was "hand box welded" too??

Because the boxed convertible frames are notorious for rust. This was someone's quick and dirty fix. You will need to re-cut the holes in the bottom of the frame where they were from the factory to access the bolts. Be aware that if the frame was that rusty, then the body mounting bolts are also rusting in the cage nuts. These nuts are blind so you will not be able to access them to spray penetrating oil on them. The nuts will break free from their mounting cages and spin when you try to remove the bolts. This will require you to cut holes in the floor pans from the top to hold the nuts and remove the body mounting bolts.

If your pix are of a 66 conv frame -- then it is totally different from the 67. The crossmember mounts are even completely different for a 67 conv frame from a non-convert frame. Thats why i showed you the pic of the crossmember area on mine??

The only difference in crossmember mounts between a 66 and 67 convertible frame is that the 67 mounts have an added-on section to allow the crossmember to mount farther back for the TH400 that was first offered in 67 on the A-body. Note also that the HD frame option under the hardtop and sport coupe cars was simply the boxed convertible frame.
