1969 cutlass frame VIN decode

1969 cutlass frame VIN decode

I found the VIN on the drivers side frame behind the rear wheel, anybody know how to decode it?
First of all it has a name. HAYES……..then below it it reads, 394331, and below that is 326692, Thanks

This is my GUESS, someone jump in please to confirm or deny.
394331 - 2dr frame
326692 - built on 03 26 1969.

Neither of those is a "VIN". The VIN derivative stamp will have nine characters. The first character of the VIN derivative will match the first character of the car's VIN. The last eight of the VIN derivative will match the last eight of the VIN. This is the same nine character VIN derivative stamped on the engine block and trans case.

Thanks, I assume if the body was off the frame ,I might find a VIN, on the top of the frame, somewhere, question , where on the manual transmission is the VIN located, currently coated with undercoating, ,50 year old salty grime……..

Here's an old thread with photos of the vin stamped into the frame. I suspect the number you found was the part number for the frame, and date of manufacture.
