Desperate for a Delta 88 "73" convert

Hello all...full report....my story is too long and crazy to tell. Short version is a flew to Milwaukee and the owner of the car picked me up in the convert. The car was 100% legit, perfect even, cost $800 bucks round trip. Spent the whole day with owner & he showed me the boot for the top (still in original GM issued bag never used) car had all orig factory stickers still. Flew home and we agreed on $ but at the last minute the guy backed out said he needs time. WTF right....but he's very old and gonna wait and see...

He needs time? Time schmime. He had all the time in the world to decide to sell it in the first place. I've heard of buyer's remorse, but seller's remorse?

Did you tell him that you didn't just take a 5-minute drive down the road to look at the car but that you spent $800 to travel to see it, and if he's changing his mind about selling it, he ought to at least reimburse you for that expense? Heck, old or not, I'd be furious with the seller if one pulled something like this on me. I'd probably threaten to take him to small claims court. That would probably be enough to either get him to sell or reimburse you.

Here's two that I just came across. Not sure if you've seen them yet or not.

This first one states that's it's being sold by the original owner.

If that's the car you want, you have to make him feel good about selling it to you. Tell him it's going to a good home, you're the caretaker of it for now and will make sure it is taken care of when you pass it on. You gotta stroke him. Maybe offer a little more $$? If you wiz him off, it's for sure a no sale. If it not the exact one you want, then let it go. Seems odd you spent the day with him and he changes his mind...........

I saw a pretty black car like that the other day in Lansing [MI], kind of looked for sale, but I did not note where exactly it was located. Nor whether it was a convert.

wife says it was both convert and f/s

Chrisntam I only told you the short version but I will give you some more details & how I connected with this guy...So when I first called about the car it was his mechanic I talked too. He gave me all the usual crap bout car was all "original" and legit. He says to me you want to talk to the owner the 2nd time I called him. The owner (who shall reman nameless) gets on the phone. Didn't have much to say but their was something bout the way he did talk about his car...like it was his baby..& yes down to earth believable...cont...

So where was I...ahhhh yes believable (my 1st mistake?)...maybe. So after that call I call the mechanic again the next day...he tells me he's a good friend of owner, who is old, and that he's been the mechanic for this car close to 30 years. I ask the mechanic..."the owner what nationality is he?" He says he's German...then he laughs and says "we call him the crotchety Kraut"...when he told he that I knew I had to fly out and see the car. This was the one I was sure of it...sent those exact words to my wife more than once and her reply was "where's this one Seattle" so funny beearch. Anyway I ask the mechanic to ask the Kraut wat his favorite German dish is...cont....

Have you seen this one? From what we can see, it looks pretty good, and it's not brown.

Here's one that I'm sure won't fit the bill, but what's interesting about it, in my opinion, is the Comfortron air-conditioner. That has to be a pretty rare option to find on a Delta 88. I'm guessing it was ordered mostly by buyers of 98s. Unfortunately, he says that, while the A/C works, it "needs the switch replaced on dash." If it works, why does the switch need to be replaced?

I think his buy-it-now price is a bit steep given the car's condition, but you never know what he might take for it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/371138496056...:SS:SS:US:1120

I'm curious what he means by A/C "switch." There's no switch. Just a lever and a temperature dial. We can also see that it has the base AM radio and no cruise control. It does, however, have power windows, locks, and seat.

Riddle me this, Batman...why is the bottom of the air cleaner white?

You have a talent for understatement.

It's not white. It's primer. Like the rest of the car.

Why prime it and then put it back on the car? Why not prime it, then paint it, and then put it back on the car? This would add about 10 minutes to the total time and $1.95 to the total cost of repainting the air cleaner.

I like the listing for this one as it includes this comment:

"i got all brand new music for it also still in box"

That's sure something I look for when shopping for a car. Does it or does it not have brand new music!

I like this ad, too:

I think we've seen at least some of these before. Out of all of them, I think the San Francisco car is the prettiest.

This is one sharp-looking car, in my opinion.

Now, if you globalize that thought to the entire car, I think you will get an idea of what any buyer is likely to find:
A car full of halfazzed, half-done jobs that pretty much half-runs.

Here's one that just came up on ebay. Looks pretty good to me. It's being sold by a dealer. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of a gray car, but with the red interior, I think it looks ok. The gray starts looking more like pewter.

Hello all Roschy65 here & I can finally say I got the Delta from the older gentleman in Milwaukee. It took over 2 months & a ton of coaxing but this entire search started back in April of this year. The car is absolutely one owner & the things I'm reading from the documentation are too funny...dealer papers and stuff from 1973 gonna save every piece. Just wanna say thanks to all who sent me hits really appreciate it!!!! Going out right now to detail it and I will send pics after. Can't get enough of the 455's exhaust growl
Thanks again
Roschy!!!

Advice provided on August 12: If that's the car you want, you have to make him feel good about selling it to you. Tell him it's going to a good home, you're the caretaker of it for now and will make sure it is taken care of when you pass it on. You gotta stroke him.

Comes to fruition on October 25th. Good going, let's see those pics!
