I wish I was around when they were originally created. I originally bought the car and recreated it into a 442 W30 because I didn't have tens of thousands of dollars to buy the real deal. It looks identical to a car worth five times its value and turns heads everywhere I go with it. You see a lot of chevelles and camaro, but 442s are very and far between. I'm only 18 and now that I'm in college and strapped for money the car needs to go. I drove it quite a bit in high school and enjoyed every minute of it. It drained my bank account but you can't put a price on the memories I had with it. One day, 30 years from now I'm going to be kicking myself for selling it.

You WILL be kicking yourself down the road if you are truly as passionate and connected to these machines as most of the rest of us are. Your story sounds exactly like mine nearly 30 years ago. Sold my '70 SX so I could eat and pay the rent. How ironic that hindsight has to be 20-20. I just read in Hemmings that classic cars have a bigger return as an investment in the long run than the stock market and gold. Again it's ironic because a lot of us would rather keep our cars than sell them. I 've had a '72 for a couple years now and am trying to turn it around to work toward another SX before they get out of reach for me. Best of success to you.........Chumley

Recreation, re-creation, clone, and tribute are *all* acceptable terms for someone who is being honest about a car not being an original whatever.
"Counterfeit" is not correct here, because by definition the intent is fraud.

Yes you did.
The person with the answer you are looking for, might not be interested in a thread titled "Production numbers" or "442 for sale".
A new thread, with a more accurate title, "Need floor shift dimensions" for instance, will get far more exposure than hiding it at the bottom of an unrelated discussion.
It would also be less rude.

It is also a good year for counterfeit w-machines I might have the last non-w '70 442 left ...

I appreciate all the positive comments guys. For the most part, these cars are pretty simple. With the right tools, some muscle and a lot of patience you can do pretty anything with them. There are a few things about the car that looking back I wish I did differently. The wheels aren't the correct Argent grey for one, they're painted to match the body. I wish I had spent more money and bought the correct sport mirrors and perhaps the ralleye pack gauges, that would have been pretty dope. Other than that, I couldn't be happier with the car. As you can imagine, at 18 it was a blessing. I had so much fun with the car in high school, I'll definitely buy the real thing some day down the road. This wasn't the first car I worked on though. My first one was a '65 Impala SS that I bought when I was 15. I became a little bored with the 327 in it though and when my dad wouldn't let me drop a 454 in it, I sold it and bought a car with a 455!Anyway, there's my story. The car is posted on the Chicago's Craigslist and with a little luck, I'll be able to sell the car to pay my tuition

Unless you're looking for a future investment keep this one or make another clone when the time comes. Why pay $35,000+ for a car when an $8,000 car will give you the same pleasure, look exactly like a real one and can be modified to out perform a real one without loosing any value? Modifying a real one could bring its value down unless it reversable. Save your money and have fun. That's what the hobby is all about. I mean, if you're that good at fixing these cars up do it. You'll be laughing all the way to the bank. Just my $0.02
