No, but care to bet what percentage of reproduced tags are altered tags that are going into into cars for fraudulent purposes?

Wow, a VIN tag. That's impressive. A real service to the integrity of the vintage car hobby.

Tag was lost during restoration, proof of ownership was made, and he made a new tag.

This is yet ANOTHER reason I don't care to watch the Barrett Jackson auctions
or the Mecum auctions where people are getting ripped off daily. It's one giant hustle.

Combine that with 5 digit odometers and you have a market oversaturated
with bullsh** claims on vehicles only have X amount of "Low" miles.

My 442 clone's gauge reads 6700 miles....
I myself know DAMN WELL that a 40 year old car has more then 6700 miles on it.
But 9 out of 10 cars sold at auctions make these BS claims of low all original miles.

I'm sure I could sell my gauge to some guy making a fake 442 that he plans on
restoring to new condition and trying to sell it for a huge chunk of change, with
the claim the car is original with only 6700 miles on it.

I just got a reply back from http://www.datatags.com/ they said $275 for a replacement tag but the VIN on the frame would have to match the VIN on the title.

Is there a spot on the frame that is stamped with the VIN number?? If so where would that location be??

a couple places , my guess on a '66 would be inside the c section frame rail around the gas tank ...

There must be a diagram some where ...

Thats what many people have told me. Is it not located anywhere else on the body or frame??? I have heard people talk about it sometimes on the firewall under the blower motor cover. I don't think I will be pulling the body off to get a picture of it.

Did they stamp a VIN# on the engines in 1966??

Is that $275 for a body tag/data plate or a VIN tag? If they mean body tag, it has no relationship to the VIN. And if it is a VIN tag, is it even legal for them to do it, and what do they mean by "VIN on the frame would have to match the VIN on the title" What form of proof do they require?
Lots of questions still.........

Yes I have the POP and there is a 12 Digit number on the bottom left of the POP that matches the VIN number on my title. The problem is that year should be a 13 digit & the format doesn't match the normal oldsmobile format. Its almost like they made a type when entering the information at the factory and then the car got registered that way. Its close to the correct format its just missing the plant code "M". The first 6 digits of my VIN are "635669"

As far as the circumstances go I purchased the car & am ok with everything on the car. I just want to fix the registration issue if I can find out the correct VIN. I just keep being told that the VIN is on the bottom left of the POP card. If that is the case then its very confusing cause even the number on the POP doesn't match the normal Olds format. LOL Head Spinning.

So based on the book and everything I have gathered including pics of other 1966 98 LS vehicles. My VIN should be ( 386696MXXXXXX ). As far as all the info I can gather. Stamped on the frame will either be the full VIN or a VIN derivative that should include at least the last 6 of the VIN. As long as I have the last 6 I can figure the rest out.

Yes. BUT........

I think I may have figured out what is up with your car. I think it may be a theft recovery car, and has been assigned a new VIN by the Canadian BMV.

Facts:
1. Your regular VIN tag is gone.
2. You have a Lansing built car.
3. You have a very odd Canadian plastic POP.
4. Your title matches the POP.

Your car would have/should have come with a standard (2) metal plate POP, not the one you have.
A re-VIN is the only thing that makes sense. If that is true, you're in good shape and quite legal.
I suggest you take the POP to your BMV and ask them if that was issued as a re-VIN. And keep asking until you get someone there who knows, not just some clerk.
Pleeeeeese let us know!

Thats one of the things I was thinking as well. I think I will go tomorrow and get a vehicle abstract for that VIN. It should list every owner back to when the car was new. If it doesn't go back to 1966 I will know something is up and approx when the car was first registered with this VIN.

I think it is ( 52116933 ). First what type of car was this & where was it on the frame. I thought they would have stamped them deeper than that.

65 Cutlass. Olds had a machine that came down and stamped the numbers. As long as something was there, Olds didnt care how nice the stamp was.

So here is what I did today. I went to the Ontario Ministry Of Transportations online service site and got a Vehicle Abstract based on the VIN of the vehicle. The first time the vehicle was registered in Ontario with that VIN was in 1972 so its not something that has been done recently. That makes me feel better anyway!!! LOL

When I get a chance maybe next summer when things warm up a bit I will try to get a look at the VIN on the frame. If I can get that I can run another search on that VIN and see whats up with it and if possible get it changed back to the original VIN.

Cool, you're making progress. 1972 makes sense, because the plastic POPs like yours started in 1969. I'm still convinced it was given a new VIN. And it was probably in 1972!

I'm inclined to agree with you. The name on the Plastic POP matches the first registered owner in 1972. However the date on the POP says (11/23/65) which leads me to believe he was the first owner of the vehicle and the VIN was changed in 1972 to this new weird VIN.
