Car was originally Burnished Gold with a Gold vinyl top, so who knows what else was changed. The stripes are definitely not correct. Also note that the cowl tag shows RPO B80 chrome drip rail molding, which was required with the vinyl top. Those didn't get put back on either.

And what's with the red in the scoops?

Not exactly factory application of seam sealer, so the trunk floor has likely had rust repair panels installed.

Aftermarket intake, Holley carb, and 1973 valve covers, sloppy workmanship (couldn't connect the washer hoses?).

Aftermarket ballast resistor, no hose on the O.A.I. actuator. The more you look, the worse it gets...

But at least they went through the trouble to paint the stripes on the driveshaft...

Bottom line is that either that TH350 is a numbers-matching JO code or it isn't, but of course the code stamp on the TH350 is on the servo cover, which can be changed pretty easily. Of course, JO code servo covers don't exactly grow on trees.

They sat on my Chevy for 20 years. I replaced them with black last year as part of a comprehensive cooling system overhaul.

Typical dealer car. I will never understand the fascination with the towel rack. It takes away from the body lines so much. Fool and their money are soon parted. Probably a smog motor 350 too. Sign up. Go get it. We have seen this dealer do things like this before. I remember one of their W-30 Cutlass Supreme's. Still a class act. 🤒

I missed this the first time. W31s did not come with cut out bumpers and trumpets.

Another one. Note the amount of prep work under that black repaint. On the other hand, I can't tell if that's the original Burnished Gold or not.

So many things. 80 grand and you get garden hoses and not even hoses for the windshield washers. Smokin deal. What a scum bag dealer.

Don't confuse asking price with selling price.

Oh trust me. I get it. You can ask all you want. If people don't pay it. Just your weight. This car isn't even worth half the asking price. No way.

Amen. This car is such a an example of that. Are you kidding me?! They want eighty grand and it has hoses from the garden. You have no washer hoses. You can imagine how many other half assed things there are. Can't even imagine the body under that paint.

Not just ebay. Most of the high end auction cars are the same.

It’s all about the image and prestige. I suspect 99.99% of the purchasers have never turned a wrench.

I paid less than half of that for my H/O in better shape, and I still feel bugged by the things that aren't right on the car for the price I paid for it. Fortunately, they're all little things I can fix.

People with loads of money. Having a few million is not uncommon these days. 10 million is where rich starts, and 100 million is the old "millionaire" of the 1930s. Let's say you have 4 million in cash, stocks, bonds. An 80k car is 2% of that; you could buy 50. So, people who have that money, and who aren't car guys, just want a toy, and probably for not very long. That car will be bought by a non-car guy and it will sit in a garage.

I guess the difference is old-school rich vs. nouveau riche. A generation ago, rich guys paid (relatively) big money for muscle cars, but to get the stratospheric bucks, the cars had to be right in all respects because, whether they could turn a wrench or not, the buyers knew the cars, having grown up with them.

Now? Not so much.

There was an excellent video somewhere, I will try to find it, on old money, self-made man, and nouveau riche. The old money guy is not impressed by money, since he has had it his entire life, but he is impressed with quality stuff. The self-made man has streamlined his entire life (in the gaming world, we call it min/maxing, as in you minimize the traits that do not matter, and maximize the ones that do), so he, while impressed by money, knows, to the penny, the value of things and will only pay for a good deal. The nouveau riche, like a rap star, has millions of dollars and he is not really sure how he got it, or how to manage it, so he spends like a child.

The first guy buys the bolt-correct W-30. The second guy MIGHT buy this car, but only for $30k or less. The third guy would buy it for $80k.
