I have just inherited a 4th vehicle, so I think I'm going to sell the '85. I have huge reservations, but 4 cars for me right now is overkill, plus I'll be buying a house this summer and I doubt I'll be able to find one with anything more than a 2 car garage.

Here's a rundown:

- super sharp looking gray on gray
- 307-4V w/ the 4-speed OD
- less than 43K original miles (documented)
- super nice car, runs great, drives great
- recent maintenance includes: new headliner, C-pillars and visors professionally recovered, transmission serviced (electronic solenoid replaced), new Sears Diehard Gold battery
- always garage kept as far as I know (vinyl top PERFECT and bumper fillers near perfect as well)
- power driver's seat works (manual pass seat w/ manual recliner), as do all locks, windows, trunk release, and automatic power antenna

The only known issues I can think of are: A/C converted to R134 about 10 years ago but now only holds freon for about a month at a time, hood has slight fade (typical of mid-80s GM paint), AM/FM ETR stereo works but has static half the time and some of the "digits" come and go on the readout - I don't know what the deal is with it.

I have more $ in this car than I will be able to get, so I'm not going to state a price at this point. What do you guys think is fair? I want it to go to a good home as it's so clean and original. I will post some pics shortly that I happen to have on this computer (from last year when I bought it). Any specific new pics can be taken, it just might take me a day or so. That is a very pretty car. I would pay maybe $2500 for a car like that if I was in the market for it. I wouldn't expect to pay more than $3500 for it, but that is just me. A 24 year old sedan isn't very desireable from a collectors stand point, but it is immaculate and has low miles. Good luck selling it.

The crazy thing about it is the average price for a new car nowadays is somewhere around 24-26 thousand and the overwhelming majority of these cars will be in the junkyard 15-20 years from now. A car like this you can buy for a fraction, take care of it, work on it, and it will last a lifetime!

Thanks, I know what you mean....I've seen those too...which is why I didn't think mine was a bad buy at my asking price. The buyer seems like a super guy and has 3 other of these 88's (one 84 and two 85s I believe he said).

Not exactly.....since I have more $ than that in it...after upgrades, repairs, etc.

 

I had an '84...one of the best cars I ever owned! I was keeping an eye on yours. Wish you were closer to NY, I would have bought it at that price. Compared to used cars today that are 20 yrs newer, same miles, not as clean or in nice as shape, need to be a certified computer wiz to work on, and are 3 times the price...your car sounds like a pretty good deal!
