Here's a video when the owner bought it back in 1998 that the previous owner sent to him. It was for sale in 2016 for $150k

w30 ??
Looks like the guy is saying it could be a fake w30.. converted from regular 442..
From the ad:
"I bought car as real W30, but after consulting with Oldsmobile expert Stephen Minore, he said the engine and chassis are matching numbers, but the OW transmission was re-stamped and early production doesn't match his W30 production database. I'm going to believe his expertise and agree the W30 components are a conversion.
442 has 3228 miles on odometer since frame off restoration in 1996."

125 Grand that better be a proven car head to toe. Day one to today.
Beautiful car but that car is almost too perfect. My guess would be that the seller overpaid and knows it. Trying to jump the current Oldsmobile wave and try to send it down the line. Exactly why I bitch about fakes 👍 People come at me all the time with Oh a buyer should do their homework. Once a fake car gets sold over and over someone gets screwed. I give the seller Huge props for admitting it.

This car was posted on Facebook. It is not a W-30. Steve Minore went over the car, and told the guy it wasn't real. The trans tag is a restamp, the Font is wrong, and the build number doesnt jive with the build date. Everything on this car was added to make it appear to be a real W-30. The current owner admitted that it wasnt real, then deleted his post when he was called out for asking W-30 money for a clone

....Just my two cents worth.

The car is beautiful, heavily optioned, W27 carrier. Long term owner (24) years. He consulted Steven Minore and the seller disclosed that his car is not a W-30. I see no deception.
Gorgeous car, gorgeous color.
Any member in the seller's area to look at the car?? Please send me a private message. Thank you!!

Wow…he got took if it was sold to him as a #’s matching w30, I believe I would be thinking about legal action. What a horrible thing, if he was in fact trying to pass it off too, then thats just as low. Hard to believe he has no documentation to prove the car from the previous owner, ie, he was told but didn’t get anything of proof. Unbelievable..like Ronald Reagan always said…trust, but verify

So if the car was a real W30 before, it would have to be real now, correct? Obviously the OW stamp is the wrong font, but the TAG itself and the rivet look pretty real. I guess that leads to the production date issue being too early to have been a W30 produced car coming into question. I have no knowledge myself, not enough details, but we have seen 70-442 verts selling in the $125-150k range . Although, those are usually well documented/restored cars w/4 speed trans. I agree that the seller will not lose money on the car, just a guess.

It stands to reason if it was a real , documented W30 then the guy you know should have the documents to prove it is.. the current owner states he was never given documented proof and has asked several times for this info from the previous owner with no response? So does your friend have the docs to prove it and refuses to give them to the current owner? Or did he never have docs and just decided it must be a W30 because it had many of the attributes? Seems to me like this could easily be resolved if any docs exist. Steve Minore obviously disagrees on its provenance. . Car sold for 150,000, listed now at 114,000.. thats a 36,000 loss.

TwilightBlue,
Were you able to make contact with the seller? The contact information has been removed from the OldsmobileCentral Ad.
I may be interested if you decide to pass. Please send the contact information if you decide to pass.
thanks,

I know Steven Minore. Fyi: The seller has not, retained Steven. My understanding is the seller has used Steven's name to infer that Steven has examined the car. Steven hasn't examined the car. Draw whatever conclusions you may from my information.

I hear the car sold, looked like a nice restoration..just to much crap going on with the car as far as it being sold as a true W car, then , no its not, w ho inows, it may be a cutlass repurposed to appear like a 442 with W 30 options added. The whole story was not being told.

He didn't volunteer that its was a "conversion" (Tribute, clone, replica, facsimile, and a dozen other words). He got caught with a fake. Burying the admission in the description subtley keeps him from being jailed, sued or whatever for fraud.....Just my two cents worth.
I know this car and I know the person who restored it. It was a real W30 when sold.
I will add that current owner will not loose money on this car.
Exactly. But still people are ok with it. Oh but...
