Clay Kit

Anyone ever used a clay kit on their Oldsmobile? Mid to late '70's preferably. Any thoughts will do.

Are you talking about the clay bar to clean the paint?

I use a clay bar on all my cars. Classic and daily driver. I wash my car and then I use the hose water and clay bar. I wet the panel and then clay it. I then rinse. You can use the spray that comes with it, but all the clay needs is a little lubrication and the water is fine. Paint feels so smooth and I notice a better shine. Just keep kneeding the clay as you go.

Yes, Clay Bar. I have never used that system. I just wondered if it was worth all the effort. That is a lot of work it looks like.

I have used the clay bar many times, it removes the fine grit that builds up on the paint that wax will not remove. It gives a smooth surface, good to wax at that point.

Clay bars get all the impurities out of your paint. Do a spot and then run a cloth over it and you will see the difference. It is not abrasive so do not expect it to buff your paint or make it shinier. I highly recommend it. Meguires and Mothers both make the clay bar.

Thanks. I guess I may have to try it.

Just take care that you don't drop it on the floor then try and use it again, instant swirls in the paint..... Tedd

Doesn't the removed grit build up in the clay and eventually start to scratch the paint?

That is what I was concerned about VC.

The stuff it removes is not real gritty. It is more like impurities that become embedded in the paint. I might use a clay bar on two cars and then I throw it away. It is getting tree sap and stuff like that out of your paint.

I think most of the time it is tree sap that won't wash off with regular car soap.I have now started using Race Glaze to do the same job. I like it for getting rid of swirl marks also.... Tedd

Has anyone tried the Mothers Clay Bar 2.0? Looks like a rubber pad on a handle. Thoughts?
