Trunk Weatherstrip Question
I'm not sure which is the best forum for this topic, but I'm sure someone here will have the answer.
How is the correct way to install new trunk weatherstrip. Does it get adhesive all the way around?

Note the position and placement of the old.
Remove the old and scrape out the remanents with a narrow plastic or wood scraper. You can make your own from popsicle sticks or plastic scrap.
If the channel is rusty, tend to it now. Paint it when done.
You will need cemant all the way around. I started at the latch and would do about 2 feet at a time. Do not pull or stretch the seal. When you get back to the latch, cut the end with a razor knife and put some cement ont he butt end, connecting to the other end.
Follow cement instructions well. Let dry overnight before closing lid all the way.

Most weatherstrip adhesive (3M Super Black Weatherstruip Adhesive) says to coat the both surfaces first, let get tacky, then install. With a long piece like that, sounds like it'l get a little messy.

I did 2 trunks like this and both went well.
For the Cutlass, I prefer the Metro brand seal.

I just installed a soffseal weatherstrip. It was significantly larger and firmer than the old one. Trunk did not want to close. i used a little armor all to make it slippery so that it would close. Seemed to work - hopefully it will compress a little. I did not glue it as I saw a few rust spots that I need to tend to. I'll glue it once they are repaired.

Look carefully at the old weatherstrip as the contour is complex and you want the new to go in with the correct portion up. Check your year assembly manual (wild about cars has them on-line, and you can buy them on ebay); on the 66, the end is offset from the latch, not centered--if you want to be restoration correct. If yours is original, you can just see where it starts and stops for a guide.
