Hi Guys,

A few weeks ago I took off the front wheels of my 70 W to have them blasted and repainted. I noticed that one rotor was a two piece and one was a one piece. I didn't investigate further due to a lack of time....and just put the painted wheels back on. Now I'm getting ready to rebuild the entire brake system and would like to know if I should expect the spindles or calipers to be different from one side of the car to the other.....meaning does having both the one piece and two piece rotors mean anything with respect to the rest of the brake system? Are the two piece and one piece interchangeable, and do they use the same spindle and caliper? I'm almost afraid to go out, take the wheels off, and look.

My guess is someone replaced one rotor with the one piece at some point in time. Everything else will be the same. You have nothing to worry about.

 

I'm curious, does it have single piston calipers or two pistons per caliper?

Only 68s got the 2 piston calipers. After that they all were singles.

 

Randy, I'd always thought 1967 and 68 were the only two years. But recently I was told they could have been on 1969's too. Since the only 2 piece rotors I've seen had two piston calipers I'd thought I'd ask and see. I do realize that over the years someone could have got a replacement rotor at a wrecking yard and picked up a two piece. John

 

Better count again. No A-body ever got two piston calipers. The 67-68 cars had FOUR piston calipers. The 1969-up cars had single piston calipers.

 

Sorry Joe. I knew they were multiple piston but I made the fatal mistake of thinking they were 2 piston. I personally have never seen them so live and learn.

 

2 piece rotors were factory up to the early 70 model, most built in 69. I have at least 2 70 cars and possibly 3, one of my Dads cars, that still have the 2 piece rotors. They are low mileage cars so they should be originals. They reprodce the 2 piece rotor if someone wants to be "original" on a part that almost nobody will ever see.
