1994 Cutlass Supreme Rear Brake Replacement

Does anyone out there have some suggestions on replacements/upgrades rear brake pads-rotors-calipers for a 1994 Cutlass Supreme? I switched over my wheels yesterday to a re-finished set of 5 spokes which gave me an opportunity to give a close visual inspect on everything behind the wheels. As usual to these cars, the puny rear rotors are grooved and are about shot and there is very little left on the pads, and all is quite rusted so it's decision time as to how/what I need to buy to replace it all. The car stops fine for now but that won't be for long.

I was thinking Power Stop Z-23 pads & rotors as replacements as the rotors in this set up are slotted & drilled. For the calipers I was thinking about Raybestos or Delco remanufactured. I've heard though, that drilled and/or slotted rotors are overkill for these cars and to just get basic rotors since they don't last long anyway. Also, does anyone know if I can go to a larger rotor, it's almost shocking how small the factory dimension rotors are.

The front brakes are fine, looks like they were replaced in the not too distant past so I can leave them alone. For now.

I would get plain rotors and quality pads. In the past Raybestos made excellent brake parts. Can't say I have recent experience.

If you're not redoing the fronts, leave the rears stock. X2 on Raybestos brake parts.

Seems as if you install larger diameter rotors, then you need new caliper mounting brackets that move the calipers further out. I say not worth the effort.

I have a car with 4 wheel Brembo disc brakes and while many with similar vehicle go with slotted / drilled rotors, I have not and have been completely satisfied with the factory rotors. On this vehicle, I suspect if slotted / drilled provided any increases, then the factory would have used them.

I guess that’s a lot of words to say I don’t think they provide any benefits for a daily driver.

Use stock replacement parts... You don't need to over do the braking system for these cars... I have driven a lot of these W-bodies over the years, especially as winter drivers, with out any brake issues except wearing out pads, but in most cases I realized the pads were wearing and changed them before the rotors were scored...

Thanks that's a good consensus, that's a plan. Stock style it will be.
