Part identification and need
I am in the process of switching out the proportioning valve because I went to disc brakes in the back. I am also relocating the proportioning valve because I'm putting headers on the car. Is the piece in the picture, that is bolted to the booster, needed? What is that that piece for?, I never remember seeing one before. Thank you
That is the holdoff / delay valve for the 1970-older front disc/rear drum cars that use a metering block instead of a proportioning valve. The holdoff valve momentarily "delays" the front disc brakes from grabbing to give the rear shoes time to move against the drum. If you are installing a new proportioning valve along with the rear discs, then you do not need to retain the delay valve.
