changing drum to disk
changing drum to disk
Hi I have a 71 Toronado and just wanting to know how to change out my rear drum to disk brakes. I saw a part on Ebay that came of a 74 Eldorado that they said would probably work for a 71 .I hope someone can refer me to a person that has done this before.
changing rear drum to disk
I am thinking of changing my 71 Toronado rear drum to rear disc brakes. Can some on direct me to site that will show me what parts I will need and how it is done .Roy
Rear disc brakes are over-rated IMO. 80-90% of the stopping power comes from the front brakes, especially during a panic stop. The only advantage of disc brakes on the rear is that they are more simple to replace pads / maintain than drums.
I'll add that the whole point of a proportioning valve is to REDUCE the line pressure and thus braking force at the rear wheels to prevent premature lockup. You're going to spend $1500-$2000 for a rear disc brake kit and then restrict the line pressure to give you the same braking force at the wheels that the drums did? Think about that.
