Brake Upgrade

Does anyone know if later model self adjusting backing plates and drums will fit my 57 Oldsmobile. When the new 455 I would like to upgrade along with redoing the brakes. Later when I figure out how to duct my heater to the drivers side of the car and do away with the air box on that side I will add a dual cylinder brake system.

Thanks in advance.

Brake upgrade

Ok, after a little research I have found out the Oldsmobile starter putting self adjusting brakes on their products in 1959. So next question with the 59 version brake backing plates and drums fit my 57 Olds with the 455 running so strong I want to upgrade if I can.

Thanks

I had this same idea of putting self adjusters in from a 'later' car.. "Later" meaning 1962 as I believe that was the first year they had self adjusting brakes. I even put a 'wanted 1962 brake adjusters' thread with no luck on this website. Trust me - I just did the entire brake job on my '59 and there is no self adjusting brakes on them. I want to put them on my 59 cause its a pain to adjust them every 2 to 3 months

Hate to here that. I feel the same way and with the power I now have with the 455. I am even more concerend. We have a few pull t=yourself yards around here with early 60 GM. the bodys are mostly parted out but their are some frames, axles. and front ends that can be identifed. I guess its time to take pictures of mine, and measurments and muck around and see what I can find out. I need to do a full break job so I guess now is the time. I will let you know what I find out
