Rear Brake Lockup

Well, had a different 12 bolt installed in the Cutlass recently. 3.73 gear and am very satisfied with the performance. Here's my problem. I had to nail the brakes at speed and the rears locked up darn near immediately putting the car sideways. Of course I just let off and got things under control. I had room. But what if I didn't? Anyway, is there a proportioning valve I can adjust on a stock system to remedy this problem?

Hey J, what's up. We are and it's late. Are you impling I should put an aftermarket proportioning valve in the 68? How'd things go at Cordova?

The next B.O.P. Cordova race is Oct 11th.
Byron was a blast. Had a few beers, few hot dogs, few more beers, and so on and so on. I'm yanking the motor out of my gray bomber at 7am, and dropping my old 455 back in. I wanted to build my small block AND my big block both this year, but I'm out of funds and soon to be weather for the year. So I'm just gonna regasket her and slap her in for Cordova.
70,000 miles on it only (It's still a pup)

I thought Cordova was the one you were going to. It was Byron. I misunderstood. Did you run the beast? I bet it'll run a little better with a 455 in it. What gear are you running? With a 3.73, 3000 stall and the BB, LOOK OUT! Have fun and keep in touch.

Also make sure your brake shoes and drums in the rear are clean and uncontaminated with anything. I do know brake fluid on the linings will cause a grabby situation.

That is really dangerous and you are lucky nothing bad happened, absolutely nothing on a car is more important than good brakes. The car shouldn't do that and another valve would just be a band-aid and could compound or just mask the problem, nothing to take lightly. The car have discs or drums in front?, original type system? There are a lot of variables depending on what system. No kinks in the brake lines from installation? Does the car have a brake warning light (wire coming from the top of the metering block) and is it connected and working? I think you just take the wire off and ground it to test or it will light when the key is turned when starting.

Just my two cent woof,

Allan
