62 starfire brake upgrade

does anyone know if you can change a single master cylinder to a dual one on a 1962 starfire.

Since there were plenty of later model Oldsmobiles with 4-wheel drum brakes and dual master cylinders, it should just be a matter of finding the parts.

Heh- the factory offered a dual master cylinder upgrade kit for 1962-66 cars except- you guessed it- 1962 3600 series. Can't really understand why the Starfire was excepted because they used the same master cylinder as other 88/98 cars. Unless it had to do with that metal tee on the brake booster that went to the vacuum reserve tank...

Dual masters came in in 1967

You might check out the MC for 1967 big cars 88's/98's/ Starfires should throw a listing for a drum brake dual master cylinder.

Did this fix on my '66 Starfire and it gives much confidence with no real change in brake feel compared to the single master.

The only tricky thing is you have to massage the inner fender on the drivers side to fit the left hand side hydraulic outputs.

You may not want to do this if you've got a show car. Pretty much have to bash the inner fender into submission to make room for the hydraulic lines.
