1962 Starfire help
1962 Starfire help
Not sure how to do this, but I’ll give it a try. I bought a 1962 old Starfire I would like to get new brakes on. It can’t seem to find the drums to fit really don’t want to start a conversion any help in the matter would be appreciated
I'm sorry but members are not allowed to provide assistance unless you post pictures of your 1962 Starfire. Just kidding...just kidding. Lots of knowledgeable folks here to provide you with solid information. I've never owned or worked on a 1962 Starfire...be patient someone will chime in. Good Luck...and, we would like to see pictures.
How badly worn are the drums you have.?
If they can be "cleaned up'' by machining them to less than 11.090 diameter they will be OK.
Take them to an automotive machine shop, and they will let you know.

You might have to get old parts if those drums can't be turned. Look for Starfires, 98s and 88s.

Congrats on getting a Starfire!
Welcome to classic Olds, pictures when you have time are always welcome.
For drums and other mechanical parts made in the States I would contact Craig at Mobile Parts (516) 485-1935.
He is located in NY and ships everywhere. I've bought the original (NOS) bell drums from him and he also carries NORS parts. Other then Craig you can try your luck with Kanter for off shore cheaper parts. Knowing where you are from can also help those of us point you in the right direction for used parts.
