POR15??

My 67 Cutty Conv has some very minor surface rust on the trunk pan. I am going to brush it out but I was wondering what would be the best way to protect it. I'm leaning towards rolling a coat of POR15 on it once I'm finished but some have told me just to put some primer on it.

I would say POR15 it and forget it!
This stuff works great on light rust as well as heavy crusty crap - it will last a long time and protect against future rust too.
Just follow the instructions on the can and it will do you wonders.
Look on their website to see which one will work best for you.
Do you plan to topcoat it with an OEM trunk 'spatter' paint? If so, you will need to apply that before the POR15 cures.
If one side is rusty, the other side should be checked also.

Where can I get the splatter paint? What is the best way to apply the splatter?

splatter paint.

I've just used a spray can that I bought at a local parts store. Worked well for me.

The spatter paint is also available at most of the Olds / Chevy parts suppliers and at local auto body paint shops. Easy to apply!

Just use black POR 15. No need to use the spatter paint. The POR 15 works fine by itself!

A top coat of spatter is only required if you want the factory spatter paint look. After POR15 cures, it cannot be easily repainted.

Thank you, I believe that I'm going the POR15, then splatter. I appreciate the advice. FYI, I finally got an avatar, the front end of my 67. I posted some pics the other day but they haven't shown up in the Gallery yet, not sure why.

Now, that is something I have done. I taped a few pin holes with blue tape from under the car. POR15 let it sit only long enough to get tacky and spray a even coat. And let dry, pulled the tape off and brushed some more on the bottom side. You will try hard to find the holes, if at all. I have noticed some of the splatter paint separated and looks like little cracks. Maybe I did not let the POR sit long enough before splatter? I put two coats of POR and I put it on thick, before the spatter. Get 3-4 cans of splatter, just in case. You can alway take them back if you do not use them. But if it drys and not covered - that will be it. I only did the bottom for now.

Nice job! Pics look awesome. Maybe I'll try that on my 98. It needs something to make it look better from it's cancer repair couple of months ago. Not like you'd see it unless you pulled back the trunk carpet, but that's what makes us Olds guys special, right?

Wow Hamm!

Those pics look great! Thanks for sharing. You and the others have convinced me to use the POR15 and add the splatter! Hope mine turns out as nicely as yours. Thanks again.
