Getting ready to install a passenger side door mirror on my 72 Supreme. Do the mounting bolts go in from the top or up from underneath inside the door? And if they go up from underneath, how does one get in there to tighten them up, because I'm thinking it's a tight spot to work with.

If you are talking about the chrome mirror, the correct mounting requires keyhole slots in the door. Those mushroom head screws fit into the keyhole slots. The screws have allen wrench recesses in the upper (threaded) end. There are small holes in the base. You use a small allen wrench to tighten the screws from the outside. Note that since you are doing this from the small end, you actually have to turn the screws CCW to tighten them.




Inline sells a template for making the correct keyhole slots.

 

Thanks for the info Joe. From the looks of the template, one screw head is bigger than the other...is that right? Also, is it possible to make the holes without the template? I missed that part when I was doing my research. Or if anyone could provide some measurements for the holes, that would be great😀. I'm a former machinist, so drilling holes doesn't scare me.

 

No, actually the screw heads are the same. This same template is used on the driver's side and the larger hole allows the joystick and cables for the optional remote mirror to fit through. You don't need to make it that big on the passenger side.

You're just drilling holes in sheet metal.
