Removing Door Mirror
Removing Door Mirror
'70 Cutlass Supreme. Chrome mirror and base. 2 small holes on the outside of the door. No screws to unscrew there. I can't see any screws on the inside either. What am I missing? Would like to take the mirror off.
I believe there are allen head screws in the holes. Loosen the
screws turning them to the right and slide the mirror also to
the right. There are slots in the door that accomedates
the screw head on the right side and gets smaller on the left
to hold the mirror tight. I have a 71' Supreme and thats I got
mine off. Hope this helps. Tom

Do NOT unscrew them all the way, or they will fall into the door and you'll have to take the doorpanel off to retrieve them. Loosen them just enough to slide the mirror body out of the mounting slots and lift it off.
These are actually mushroom head screws with a tiny allen recess in the TIP of the screw, not the head. The screws are installed with the heads down and the allen wrench used to run them up against the underside of the door to secure the mirror (which would be turning the screws counterclockwise to tighten). Unfortunately these screws frequently seize in the mirror base and the very small allen recess strips out.
