Hood to Cowl weatherstripping
Hood to Cowl weatherstripping
Hi, can anyone tell me how that length of rubber hood to cowl weatherstripping is installed, its available from Steele and on summit from various manufacturers. I can't see where it would clip in if it has those little clips or does is it just afixed with weatherstripping glue?
just trying to tighten things up on my hood with bumpers etc. and keep seeing this weatherstripping.

It goes in with clips that attach near the front of the screen that covers the cowl. I don't know the length right now.
Just beware that if you get one, make sure it is soft enough to allow your hood to close.
I replaced my 'barely there' old one with a new one. When I closed my hood, the rear edge of the hood, wouldn't go down. I tried adjusting the hinges to no avail. I spent half an hour trying to get it to close properly. Finally I had had enough and just removed the new seal. I'll have to find something a lot less firm to put in.

Go to Fusick or Year One. They list dense and soft versions. Of course the soft one is more. No idea why there is two versions for 68-72s? Call the tech line for further assistance.

Year One and maybe others sell both a soft version and a more dense version. Year One is the same price for either. I bought the dense and had the same problem. The back of the hood won't close and looks terrible. I don't understand why they sell the dense version, because it doesn't work.
Its been awhile since I done mine. I don't remember any clips...so I'm glad someone brought that up. I do remember having the hood higher than the fenders for quite awhile. Back then it was A&M softseal? products I used.
Maybe once or twice the seal would stick to the hood also(fresh paint). Sounds like we got some more options now, thank goodness.

I had to slit the slots for the clips in the seam provided on the seal, which faces the windshield. Cut an X where the clip stud goes. I marked the holes on the car then cut them on the ground and installed the clips. It went on easily.
Get the foam one and not the hard rubber, unless you like the rear of the hood 1/2" above the fenders. Forever...

Metro brand cowl seal mfg. part number CH 5 is the correct style and density.
Here is a link to one for reference, but shop around for best price.

Soffseal makes one of the correct styles of cowl seal retaining clips mfg. part number 5075. This style is not only correct, but is very thin after it is compressed.
Again, shop around for best price.

With the opening in the seal facing toward the rear of the car, start in the middle of the seal using a scratch awl to punchure the holes in the seal for the retaining clips as you work your way out to the edges taking up the slack as you go.
Hope this helps

I do not keep pictures before or after my work it was meant to enjoy and not to show off performance work does that by it self period sorry. I cut down in small amounts the center bumper with 80 grit carefully on a da after i put the weatherstripping in the channel along the front by the engine rear, channel on the firewall . I would if you find this channel along the front of the firewall behind the distributor on the top.
