Anyway to remove the bumps from a 71/72 fender

I am striking out finding a nice set of 70 fenders and have heard it's possible to remove the bumps from 70/71 fenders. Does anyone know someone who has done this and how did they come out? I can find a ton of used 71/71 fenders in good condition but not the 70's

Thanks
JD

Those bumps were an early type of crumple zone, where the body of the car starts to absorb the impact of an accident rather than the occupants. Factory replacement 1970 fenders had the bumps.

The build date on my car is January 1970. I would like to keep it as factory in appearance as possible, which is why I want to remove the bumps, or find a set of fenders without the bumps

Where are you located? I have a pair of '70 fenders in N FL, need work but are true '70 fenders without bumps. $75 each, but I don't want to deal with shipping.

I have a brother who lives in Fort Myers who could pick them up and ship them to me. Can you please send pictures to digregorioj@Comcast.net

Thanks

The most common way to fix this is to cut out the section of the fender with the bumps and weld in the corresponding flat section from a 70 fender.
