new guy without a car ( not yet anyway)

so I'm selling one of my babies on eBay ( all original 76 electra glide) so that I can buy my dream car. Its a 1969 Cutlass convertible hopefully I'll be the owner of this car after my eBay auction ends Monday. I was wondering can anyone give me a short important list of things to check over on this car before I buy it.it has not moved in quite some time but of course the owner asures me the car will drive to California and back.just wondering if there's trouble spots that I should look for on this model anything that might help . Thanks in advance and hopefully I'll be the owner of the 69 drop top soon. PS I tried posting a similar message from the wife's laptop I don't think it went through so if this is a double post I apologize

Welcome, you don't say where the car is located, but some areas of the country rust is a huge problem. Then the normal mechanical things.

Check for rust in the lower cowl, rockers, quarters, wheel wells, frame & floors.
Check for completeness. There isn't as much in repro parts available for '69's as there is for '70-'72's so the more complete the better.

Good luck.

Pull the back seat for sure and check where the inner rear fender is this is a trouble spot on these cars I have a 69. Then you have what was mentioned earlier Good luck and welcome to the site.

I'm having a bit of trouble with posting on the site I haven't quite learned yet .I just hit a reply to drop top Ron but it showing it didn't show up? Anyway what was the big difference between the 69 in the 70 72s there anyway of you checking to see if the carb is original I believe Rochester? Does anyone know if it should be a two or four barrel or would that be whatever option the person bought..? the only thing I'm for sure of at least I think im for sure of the differences of the 69 70 72 are the grill and the dash

Dk. the carb would be a Rochester as said, it could be a 4 or two barrel, engine could be a 350 or a 400 350 most common, I believe there was also a 6 cyl offered look for rot bottom rear of front fenders around the wheel arches, trunk lid the 68 and 69s are kinda unique a little smaller looking and let's face it once you have had a 69 nothing really is quite the same is it . I have owned mine 30 years I find them great easy to work on sheet metal parts aren't plentiful but getting better I think, the stainless peak trim along the top of the fender doors and quarters is as rare as hens teeth only fits the convertible.

Generally speaking if she runs and sounds decent she should be dependable,
Good luck and let us know how you make out if the body is rust free everything else is very very fixable

Good luck

It was a hard descion.. it was between the Harley or the restored 78 Kz..(which I don't think would have given me enough money if sold) .in a small way I hope it doesn't sell ..but then again I am set on getting a car..decisions decisions

Welcome to CO! Already got great advice on what to look for as far as problem areas and mechanicals. Hope you're able to find a nice one. 69's are my favorite.

Not as far as mechanical but body parts and trim pieces.
70-72 has more support in the repro aftermarket so parts are more readily available.
