69 Cutlass/442 quarter skin

Hey everybody, I have heard that the quarter skins that are available for our 68/69's are all the same. Meaning there is only one manufacturer stamping them and all the different retailers get them from one source. Anybody know for sure? If that is the case it sure doesn't make sense to pay between $250 ~ $300 dollars for them when I have seen them for around $180. Feedback please. Thanks.

They are all Chinesium. They all fit like crap. Find the lowest price if you must use them.

Thanks Joe. I've looked for an original quarter but have come up empty every time. I had a line on one last month in CA but it sold days before I heard about it. Unfortunately I need a full one. The previous owner side swiped a parked car. It caved in the door and caught the jam area and destroyed it, including the inner support. I have a donor jam section and since I have been unable to find an orig quarter (I'm tired of waiting) I've decided to skin it.

Here is one on Ebay, I thought about getting it but I'm gonna try the skins.

Yeah, I saw that one. It is for a four door. I need a full two door because my jamb area is crushed. The few that I have found usually have some problem that keeps them from being useful for my situation. Which is why I'm thinking of doing the same as you and skin it. Of course, as soon as I do, a good full quarter will pop up just to drive me crazy.

I have installed several of these. they need work to fit but don't look bad when they are done. It all depends on your skill level. One car I used the jamb and had to work the panel to fit. Another one I cut it before the door jamb and made a flange on the original quarter so I would not mess up the gaps. Good luck!

Hey John, You're right long time no talk. I need to change my email settings. I just found out that you had replied to this. It would be great if you could help me out. My body guy is patiently waiting for me to score a quarter. So, what have you got?

Are you going to keep the car?
If you are I would wait until you found a good used factory one to use.

Have you tried West Coast Sheet metal/ GM motor sports

or

You might also try Larry Camuso West coast classics

or

Have you also tried the AZ wreckers?

A lot of aftermarket sheet metal fits like **** and requires a lot of coaxing both manual and verbal during fitting.

My qtr is done and the body guy liked it, I believe it was a goodmark one (I think they all come from the same place anyway).

I haven't, but I will. Thanks for the contacts.

501, looks good. I'm jealous. Maybe it's not the same, but I can't tell from looking at your finished result. If I can't get a factory quarter very soon, it is going to get skinned. My patience is running out.
