Question Between the rear windshield and the trunk lid - 1971 Oldsmobile 442

Hello guys, I'll tell you.
I am working on the car, I have removed the front and rear windshield and I have ventured to remove the upholstery, sand and paint the floor.
Everything was fine until I removed the rear trim and saw what I show you in photos.

I also have the problem that when I wash it, water gets in, and I'm afraid that it could get into that area.
The sheet metal that I have just below has 3 holes where if I put my hand to feel it seems that there is something that is not right, an area that is too rough which makes me understand that there may be some rust.
What do you think? Is this an "invention" that was made to cars to protect the area or is it really a botched job to mask some area with possible rust?
I'm going to take it to the body shop soon and it would be very helpful to know your opinion on whether it's worth cutting and repairing.
Thanks in advance.

Regards

Unfortunately rust there is all-too-common on these cars and no one makes a repro part.

WOW! That is rough. Here is a link to what that area should look like. These are the best photos I could find.

Hi guys.

Well, I think I should clean up that area, there is something I don't see quite right and I think the problem must be there.
Also, the link that Hoffman shared makes it a little clearer to me, in that area they put a kind of protector to cover the area, but even so it seems that it is not waterproof and water enters through there, I understand that it is because underneath It is not in good condition.
We will have to cut to confirm.
Thank you very much for the help guys.

Regards

Hi guys.
I'm already fixing this area.
Looking at this photo, I would like to know if the area that I have marked in red is normally the same color as the body or is painted a different color.
The area that I have marked as blue I understand that it must be the same color as the body.
Thanks in advance.

Regards

The area in red should be the color of the interior, not the exterior paint color.

Hello guys, one more thing.
I take advantage of this thread to ask about the dashboard and its front part (let's say it's the one between the dashboard and the engine).
Are they both in the same shade of black? What shade of black should each one be in?

Underhood black is about 60% gloss. Olds used flat paint on the part of the dash under the windshield to prevent glare. The bottom of the dash is semi-gloss.

Thanks for the help Joe.
Now I'm clear, I'm going to try to leave those areas as they came from the factory.

Hi guys.

I have already picked up the car from the body repairman, he has fixed that area for me. Indeed, there was some rust and they waterproofed it with that black paste that is in the previous photos.
I hope that after this arrangement, that area will last another 50 years.
Thanks for the help.

Regards

Hello guys, a question.
Will the area where I point out (mini red line) be blue or will it be covered once I install the windshield and chrome trim?
Thanks.

Regards

Suggestion, dry fit the glass to check for alignment, especially at the bottom.

Was "yes" not clear? The trim sits on the glass and runs all the way to the trunk lid. No part of that metal shows.

Sorry Joe, my English has made me doubt the question I asked.
Thank you sir.
