Vinyl Top

What do you guys recommend to take care of a vinyl top? The original 1987 top on my car is in good condition other than looking dry as dirt. I've tried every product Walmart sells and the top dries out before I can get the entire top done. I started treating it 3 or 4 times a week and a lot of color is coming off on the rag every time I work on it. Then I went to the auto paint store I used and asked them what to use and they sold me a product called Bumper Magic made by Auto Magic. I was in a hurry to go somewhere and quickly used the stuff and it worked great. The next day though I read the instructions and it specifically said Not for Vinyl Tops. I'm unsure why they say that, the top has looked good for a month before it's started looking a little dry. Anyway I'm uneasy using this product with this warning message so I'm looking for something else.
