Was it pressurized cylinders they were using then to achieve the 5 mph rating ?.

Could drill & de -pressurize them I suppose
(standard injury disclaimer - do you research & be CAREFUL)

Or ... Remove them all together & rig up something else in their place as mounting points.

Better yet - what I would do if I ever owned a 73 ...

Put a 74/5 nose on it.

Not a perfect solution ... but better front bumper than a 73.

Saw a 73 Supreme at a show once where the guy had pushed the bumper into the grills. Near as I can figure he either removed the 5 MPH shocks and built a bracket to remount or drilled new holes in the existing mounting hardware and moved the whole assembly back. May want to size it up before hand as I'm not sure if you would get the clearance you want. 74-75 bumper would require a different nose and plastic parts on the sides as they are different.

I remember reading something about doing this.
If I remember correctly, there was a proceedure because of the pressurized cylinder.
There were two holes drilled initially in the cylinder, then one more to secure the piston in the collapsed position.
Personally I think it looks awful, too much front end.
