Bumper Help What To Do
Bumper Help What To Do
Hey out there. Have a 1980 442 I have posted pics in a thread.
Obviously the 80 front bumper has the turn signals different than 78--79 - rear bumper the same.
Mine were not rotted through, very little rust and no dents, I just painted them titanium for the time being.
I know I'm looking for a needle. Are there still salvage yards out West that may have two to where the chrome is pretty good?
Should I look for re-chroming businesses?
What does anyone know about places that spray chrome?
P.S. My headlight bezels are a nightmare to find too, mind are okay, not awful.
Thanks for anyone's thoughts.

I’m not too up my 80 442’s - is the bumper special or the same as a 1980 Cutlass? Obviously if same, you’ve got much better odds of finding it.
Check West Coast Sheet Metal in San Jose, CA and/or GM Sport Salvage in Stockton, CA as a start.
Then there are boneyards like Turner’s in Fresno and the ones like Desert Valley in AZ.
These are vintage parts businesses, more or less. If they have what you need, you won’t get it for a song.
Smilin & dialing. Good luck.

Use this website to search the nation for the bumpers you need. I was able to find a 7.3l IDIT as a core for my 86 Ford truck. It was pretty close to me in Ft. Worth, TX and I got a helluva deal.

BTW, I wouldn't consider having your current bumpers rechromed unless you're building a Barret Jackson show stopper. I had the bumpers on my 71 98 rechromed by NorthStar Plating in Brainerd, MN and they did a lousy job. I'm actually considering covering the bumpers with chrome powder coat or paint.
