70 Supreme square mirror?!

I've got a 1970 Cutlass supreme... It has a single square mirror on the drivers side. It was recently broken off when being ran into in the garage and I can't find another one like it anywhere. Was this not original or am I just looking in the wrong spots? Also, the base of the square mirror is about 2 inches longer than the circular "original 70 mirror" that I just purchased and received from OPGI. Someone please help me out here or shoot me in the right direction. Thanks!

Well, as far as I know in 1970 the Cutlass Supreme came with a chrome, oval shaped mirror on the driver's side. Here are pics

Also offered in 1970 were clamshell mirrors. IMG_1031.jpg So, the square mirror you mentioned must be from another car or different year. I'd go with the one you bought from OPGI.

Blleach,
I actually have that same mirror STL has in his post, I have a 70 convertible. I bought mine LONG time ago on ebay and just never put it on the car as I have been working on it. I too have seen the OPGI chrome ones that I'm thinking about purchasing too.

The only thing that is burning me with the OPGI ones is that fact that they are manual mirrors and dont have the door mounted remote. And my drivers side panel has the hole for the remote.

I've already bought the one from OPGI. I just wanted to keep it square if it was actually original. The bolts holes on the 2 different style mounts are compltely different. The OPGI mounting holes will have to be drilled out on the door and I don't want to do that if I can find a square mirror. Makes me wonder if the door isnt original or if some model of Cutlass could have actually came with a square mirror.

OPGI offers a reproduction mirror for the passenger side. It is chrome and runs $49.95.

Here's a picture of the driver's side door after removing the factory chrome mirror. I took this picture before mounting the 1970 clamshell style mirrors.

If yours doesn't look like this then it's possible you have the wrong door or someone modified the configuration in the past.

No '70 Cutlass came with a square mirror. You should not have to drill out the holes in your door unless it was patched in the past, it uses a keyhole type of mount to attach it, where the mounting screws will go into the larger hole and slide into the slot, at that point it should be tightened with an allen head wrench.

Hmm... Thats kind of alarming! I bought the cutlass off of eBay and had to pick it up in Texas. The seller claimed it was all original but, the more little things I learn about them, the more I see they lied! Luckily I only paid $2500 for the car if anything "major" pops up. It looks and runs great. Odometer reads 36,xxx and title shows that to be actual. The vin, cowl tag, and engine numbers all matched up and I havent had a chance to search the transmission to see if it too is original. So, I guess now knowing this, the circular chrome mirror from OPGI is going on the car regardless of what was on it!

Several vendors sell the passenger side mirror - blleach even mentioned one in this same thread.

If you're looking for a matching set of mirrors, why not go to the sport mirrors? They are remote left but manual right. But the outside appearance is identical.
