I've currently got 400 heads on my 455, and I'm looking to upgrade. Any suggestions as to the right heads that will provide more horsepower with reliability?

Also, I'm thinking of doing the work myself, but I have little to no experience. Should I avoid the project althogether, or is it achievable for a novice? Any suggestions for resources (books, websites, etc.)?

 

400 and 455 motors used the same heads in a given year. Which heads do you have?

Saw a 455 for sale on evil bay dirt cheap. One side has C heads, the other has G. Don't expect it came from the factory like that would it? Probably a swap sometime in its life?

What is the difference between a C head and a G head anyway?

 

Big difference in G heads are they are 71, and have harden valve seats, can use unleaded gas

 

Allan, perhaps the vehicle you saw with two different heads had the G head put on by the dealership after the original head on that side was damaged.

 

I have 1 G head and 1 Ga head on my motor. No big deal.
Just make sure the valve sizes match, as some have bigger valves.
