66 400 E block B heads in 67 442,, 68 455 F block C heads N crank

So I would like some input on engine build combo options. Should I simple rebuild the 455 with its cast N (nodular) crank and that is the best engine. I am guessing most ponys anyway. Or should I take the 66 forged crank and connecting rod and make a 427 engine from the 455. I really would like to hear what the you would do?

Go with the larger bore of the 455, it'll breath better, not to mantion the added bonus of the extra cubic inches.

The second option you describe is a 425. You will get mixed reviews on 425 vs. 455. The 400 block with its smaller 4" bore is better for restorations than max power, as stated above.

BTW, it is easier to find good (aftermarket) rods for the 455 at low cost, although rocket Racing does offer 425 rods made by Scat. There will be a better selection of 455 pistons also.

I have the 455 w/C heads. Absolutely no complaints.

Have you seen the crank from the 68' and are sure it is an N crank? i only ask because some 68's got rare forged steel cranks (in the process of disassembling one now)
