I hope Mark doesn't mind me sharing this.
Back in February I contacted Mark - cutlassefi regarding the build I have been planning for a while. My goal was 450HP BBO not more and definitely not less. My car will rarely see track so I figured 450hp would be plenty to play with. Mark told me this could be accomplished easy with parts out of box and with no porting. Today the engine went to dyno and it put out 442HP and 508 lb.tq. Needles to say Mark nailed it. Across all olds forums there has been a question about Procomp heads performance out of the box.

Bernard Mondello ProComp aluminum heads out of the box,

I also want to add that Mark is a man of his word. He was very helpful and very, very patient answering all my questions, and there was a lot of questions(some repetitive and stupid). He took time to explain everything and he got it done on time. I couldn't be happier.
The next 2 weeks are going to be the longest, waiting for it to get to me.
I can say that when I get my 66/67 next year he will be building another engine for me.

Proform 850 carb for Dyno. It will be a Quick Fuel 850 in the car

very nice just ordered my rods,pistons, bearings. looking for those same numbers. how radical is that cam? mild?

 

and yes Mark is a very Smart guy. Hes been giving me some info on my build as well

 

The cam is not aggressive. All I can tell you is get what Mark recommends. He also did a cam for my 350 build couple of years ago and it woke up the engine.

Cam's from mark are custom ground to his specs.

 

Did you use the ProComp rockers also?

 

As mentioned it's a custom grind. I think Lunati has a 234/242 grind listed but it uses different lobes than the one I did.
Smitty- no, used a Proform 1.65 Steel roller rocker. Haven't tried the Procomp ones yet, you?

 

That's why I was asking. Going to be ordering a set for evaluation this week.

 

X2!!! I told Mark my goals and some of the parts i had planed to use and he sent me a cam that nailed what I was looking for. Only problem I have is that i have to wait at least another year till I get to drive it. I thought about installing it in another car for the summer but I sold them all.

 

I'm sure you could find a volunteer or two that would let you slide it in their ride for a test drive.

 

Is it worth getting a custom grind cam like the one above ?? Im pretty Much doing the same build. And how would I get that cam?

After having some issues with oil pressure and dyno breaking while the engine was on it (torque monster jk ), the engine is finally crated and on it's way. Here is the latest Dyno sheet with standard corrected numbers. I hope Mark can chime in and explain this a little further.

LMAO! It's on there.

 

It was done with cooler temps to be comparable to everybody's builds and dyno sheets.
Mark also ran it with full temp and provided me with those numbers as well, but we both agreed to be fair, these numbers should be posted.

 

Correct, to compare apples to apples with BTR and others I provided multiple sheets. Edin also has one where it's at full temp and corrected for the crappy humid Florida air. Also notice the 1.2" of vacuum in the upper rpm range. And people say an 850 is too big for a mild 455? Not so.

Just an FYI- I've since parted ways with my original dyno guy due to various issues. This new place has a more modern dyno, a much better facility and he's one heck of a nice guy. Our dyno day last week was a total pleasure.

I hope to post more of these in the coming weeks, another EFI motor and one destined to run on E85. Should be fun!

Just for curiosity sake can you post the full temp sheet for comparison?

 

570tq @3100 and 493hp @5200.....nailed it for sure.Oil pressure awesome! 133 and 134 water temp..

 

I've tried three times to post the "at temp" dyno sheet, and the one done with corrected air for the Florida conditions but they won't load. Also tried to load the dyno video so you all can see the difference in the dyno rooms, it won't load either. If any of you think you can get them to load I'd gladly email them to you. Thanks!!

Very interesting. I wouldn't have guessed a 40hp difference. I would have figured more like 20hp. Thanks for sharing.

 

According to Mark I should be in between the two since this was adjusted for Florida weather. So your 20hp is not too far off.

 

Finally the crate with the engine arrived.

It will be couple of months before I can put in the car since we just closed on a house and have to move.

Finally all the boxes are unpacked and we are somewhat settled in the house and finally the engine is home.
Started assembling all the parts I was collecting while engine was being build.
Cutlass should be back in the garage next weekend so I can start tearing into it.
Starting the swap little sooner than I thought, the plan is to have the engine in the car and running by thanksgiving.

 

I like those valve covers and air cleaner. Did Mark provide them?

 

Thanks. Valve covers I bought from real57vetteguy and air filter came from Ebay. I had them engraved locally.
