I have some info on that, but I need the casting number on the front of the block, right in front of the manifold

Hi Larry
those numbers do not look like Olds Casting Numbers
If you take a photo of the engine and email it to me I can help narrow it down for you.

Of all the 394's I have rebuilt / torn out (15 - 20 of them), ALL had the 4 1/8 casting in the block, referring to the bore ( 394 )

Serouisly Confused

My 71 442 convertable:

The ID plate is located on the firewall under the hood in front of the divers position.

It reads: ST71 34467LAN415816 Body paint

TR989 68 E

05D

Ok I understand from the guys helping out here that the LAN means it was produced in Michigan (Lansing) But what is the body paint color I think it was the Brown but since someone before me sprayed flat black over the entire car i don't know. The engine numbers on top of the timing chain cover read as 396021 F and the thremostat intake reads with raise numbers as 36080 and on the by-pass outlet 020.

Any help is greatly appreshated be cause all I am truly lost. As soon as I can get her airborne I'll have rear end tube numbers, and sooner or later I'll have the numbers off the back of the block.

The passenger side head has these number raised on it as well. 884 548 in the center and near the front the numbers 28??

I just wish I knew what I have.

Thanks tons all. Chip
