Comp cams evolution roller lifters

Hi, I'm looking for info on the comp cams evolution roller lifters. Right now I have comp cams rollers from circa 2010 and they seem to bleed down overnight. I have bit of lifter rap for 15 to 20 seconds after start up. In the spring even after I pre oil the engine for 5 minutes, on start up its there. My question is are the Evolution rollers better.

Yes. They had some issues a while back, but seem to have gotten those worked out. I just did a couple of builds with them, no issues so far.

Make sure and take a close look at the snap ring that holds the cartridge in place. The early ones had a snap ring that would actually hit the pushrod. Comp has the correct rings and will send you a set for free if you need them.

Thanks Bill, I will request a set if needed. I am planning on 3/8" push rods, which will probably have interference.

Here is a picture of the new clip. Easy to see the difference.

Ok the new rollers are better, but are they the same height as the old ones I have. If there is a difference in height the geometry of my rockers and pushrods will be effected and probably require new pushrods and rocker lash adjustment.

I will finally be installing these in the next month or so. Hopefully it is a simple process to get the new improved C Clips, contacted Mark for a contact. I need to pull the bodies then soak and clean everything in mineral spirits.

No need to get Mark involved. Send an e-mail to Comp with their contact form. Thats what I did and I had a set of the new clips in a couple of days. You will need a very good set of snap ring pliers with very small tips.

Sent him an email anyways about the rest of the payment for the new heads. No response, so this is appreciated. I will send an email, hopefully they send them out the updated clips.
Have to see what I have for pliers, have a few sets.

Those "New improved C clips" have been around for decades. Over 55 years ago, an engineer at Oldsmobile by the name of Rich Powers used them on his W-31 NHRA stocker. I can believe others used them also. I would think they would be wanted for any cam that had to set valve lash (solid lifter).

Topline Lifters had a line of lifters that came with those clips several years ago. I contacted Mark Remmel years ago (2018 ?) looking for lifters with those "new improved C clips". He sent me Lunati "Microtrol" lifters.

Those C clips are called "Internal Snap Rings". You might find them at a farm supply store. They come in a variety of sizes. I am sure McMaster-Carr has them.

Not sure why they used the style clip they did. New ones should be free and not interfere.

Ralph,
Comp used an unusual ring on these lifters. When I needed them I also checked McMaster and could not find them. I get stuff from McMaster at least once a week. Not saying they cant be found with some searching but its a lot easier to get them from the source. Comp sent the correct ones out so it was not a problem.

Have you actually seen the Evolution lifters ? They have a separate removable cartridge in the body. Looks suspiciously like some type of import engine lash adjuster.

BillK, If you can get the C Clips from Comp Cams, that would be great. Next time you get some, measure them and save the sizes for reference.

I have not seen, nor do I have interest it Comp Evolution lifters. I was speaking generally about "all" valve lifters. Those "hairpin" clips can be a problem if you don't have "preload" on the lifters.
