Wanted low compression pistons for 425
Found... Yes! I got them from Kanter Automotive.
I have to have my engine rebuilt. I want to put in low compression pistons (8.3 :1 or 9.0 :1).
Where can I find these?

Craig: I'm going with the low compression pistons but at 9:1, I'll probably still have to use premium. My car just didn't like today's gasoline. I used lead substitute but didn't use any octane booster. I was going to try some but it's too late now. My car has bad compression in two cylinders and it's blowing blue smoke out of the tail pipe and it blew out the intake manifold gasket on the way home from the Canadian Nationals in Bracebridge back in August.
This build is going to cost big bucks. I hope it solves my spark knock problems once and for all. I'm looking forward to many miles of happy motoring!

I just posted this message under large engines. I'm still looking for low compression pistons for my 425.
I just got off the phone with Egge Machine, http://www.egge.com/
I ordered low compression 9:1 (L2213) .030 over pistons online last week.
They called back today and left a message saying they don't currently have any in stock and won't for at least the next 4 months.
The guy offered me .060 pistons. I said no thanks. BTW, There is no turning back. The block has recently been rough bored .025 over.
Now what? I guess, I will have to wait.

Egge makes alot of their own pistons, can he turn the .060's down to maybe .040's?
Also if you're burning oil guess what contributes to detonation? Oil, you might find that after removing the carbon and taking care of the oil in the combustion chamber it may be more tolerant of igniton timing. You may want to add a bit of camshaft as well, something mild but with a bit more exhaust duration. Again that will reduce the chance of detonation and increase performance. A win-win in my book.

Thanks culassefi. There was a broken rocker arm on #1 cylinder. Also, it's becoming apparent to me, this project just could take up the whole winter. I have lots of questions for my two engine guys. I don't think that I want to wait 4 months for pistons that might not be even available then. I might just have to have some specially made. Maybe these guys can help. No matter what, if you have enough deck thickness in the piston you can always have them machined with a dish in the middle. Finding low compression pistons for an engine that never had low compression is going to be tough. I think 9.0:1 is doable on low octane with a little extra cam. Good luck.

I rebuilt my 425 last year. I wanted to keep the high compression pistons since I didn't really have knock with the stock high compression pistons. I figured the new headgasket, being thicker than stock, would lower compression enough to run premium pump fuel with the tighter engine.
Seems to be okay so far.

I did talk with him about that. The badger pistons are farther down in the hole so with the thick head gasket it might get him where he wants. he isnt a fan of the badger pistons though. He bought a set of the 9:1 and found one bad piston and after measuring them all found that they all didnt match perfect.
Anybody use the Kanter ones?

I just off the phone with a guy named John from Egge. He told me they were not going to be making any 425 pistons because the demand isn't there. Maybe Kanter will work out for you. Let us all know how you make out.

I just received the Badger Pistons that I ordered from the guy in El Passo. I was sent P510 (high compression) pistons.
I want and need P511 (low compression) pistons. I'm going to be sending these back to him unless someone here wants them (+.040) $200.00. That was a great price, but they will be going back tomorrow (Friday).

(f-85, so now that makes two of us!) I'm going to try Kanter again. So far, I can't seem to get the answers to the questions that I have been asking them. I'm sure ya'll have been sitting on the edge of your seats wondering what pistons I would be able to use for my 425 rebuild. Well... Thanks to again to citcapp... I ordered 2 barrel pistons from Kanter Automotive. They arrived today. My engine rebuilder will measure them tomorrow and determine if they are correct. The dish looks good to me. We will see. You have a car with out a motor. I have motor with out a car lol I'm so ready for this guy to get my body and paint done. Ready to get it put together. Seats go to a upholstery shop on the 21st scared to see what that bill will be.
