Valve stem height

can anyone that has the tool (BT-6428) for measuring the valve stem height on the heads tell me the measurement with the tool on a piece of glass from the area where you measure to the bottom of the glass.

I can but it might not do what you need. The tool's surface which is above the valve stem (about 7/16" x 7/16") is not parallel with the surface of the glass due to the angle of the valve in the head as compared to the line between the machined cover rests. I couldn't find my set of standards, but the (unverified) micrometer indicates about 1.234" on the side closest to the close leg and 1.197" on the other side. The centerline of the surface which is above the valve is about 1-3/16" from the centerline of the near leg. Before fabrication those micrometer values should be checked.

thanks a million for your reply Ozzie I forgot that the valves r on an angle which would make it difficult to get a measurement, I really appreciate your efforts to try to give me the info. that u did. I'm sure there is a way to take a measurement using the degree of the valve to figure it out, just not sure how to do it.
thanks again ray

In the 67 Chassis manual, engine section, there is a reference picture that might give you the information you are looking for.

Look on OLDSMOBILITY.com web site. The info might be there also.
