Toro Q-Jet 4 Barrel On 450 HP 455?

I am swapping in a 455 in place of a 350 in my 70 Cutlass Convertible. The Cutlass had a two barrel.

The donor car was a 455 Toro car with Q-Jet four barrel carb.

Question: If I have this Toro carb professionally rebuilt will it:

1. Be adequate for a 450 HP 455 street machine?
2. Will it bolt up in place of the two barrel that was on the 350? 350 CI two barrel carb is running and still in the car. The two barrel is stock and I believe it is a Q-Jet two barrel?
3. This is NOT a race car. Street, stop light to stop light, freeway cruiser type.

Thank you.

DAvid

If it is set up properly it will be more than adequate.

Question#2 has me puzzled. The 4 barrel QJet will not bolt onto a 2 barrel manifold.... is that the question? The 455 will bolt in place where the 350 is, once the 350 is removed.

Sorry about the confusion. I will be putting a Holley Street Dominator single plane intake on the rebuilt, mildly reworked .060 over 455. Question relates to the four barrel Q-Jet on the Holley intake. Thanks.

You might want to give second thoughts to the single plane intake. A dual plane will likely work better unless you are running mid range or above most of the time.

The Toro intake is a good choice, don't discount it. Choke will all match, carb linkage will not hit on things.

Try it first, leave the engine intact. Add a taller air filter element with the extra room.

You can always change later.

Keep the 350 [or new similar] motor mounts
Keep the car's water pump or new =
and all the pulleys with WP as a set.

Other brackets should bolt right up using the correct holes.

Trans to engine, no issues.
You should use BB RWD [not Toro] exhaust manifolds and exhaust pipes.

The Toro engine is the best choice. The stock QJet would be fine and dandy.

Sorry chris but the toro Intake is no match for a Performer. That would be his best choice.

my 2 cents

Put on the Performer & have your Q jet rebuilt to specs for your engine. You will be happy in the end.

So will the 4 barrel Toro Q-Jet bolt up, linkage and all?

Please be reminded that the 1970 Cutlass currently has a 350 CI 2 Barrel Q-Jet installed. Will be swapping in the rebuilt Toro 455.

I guess the consensus is to lose the single plane Holley Street Dominator intake and install a dual plane Edlebrock Performer??

Any recommendations on who to ship my Q-Jet to for rebuild?

Thank you. David

I think the throttle cable is different between the 2bbl and 4bbl carbs. The cable bracket may be different as well but I am not sure about that.
