72 cutlass 455 drivers side rear bottom corner bolt closest to the windshield looks like where the leak is coming from. Hard to really tell.
replaced with new edelbrock chrome valve cover and using rubber gasket. Have removed and replaced gasket 3 times & still no luck.
any ideas?
do I need different valve covers?
Edelbrock chrome valve covers known for leaking?
should I try cork?
leakin bad, any need help would gladly be appreciated.
would anything else in this area leak oil?
leaking down on the headers and smoking like crazy when I drive.

From all I have read, yes.

 

Buy the good valve gaskets from Bernard Mondello Racing Enterprises. (not Mondello Performance of Paso Robles) Also make sure your valve covers are flat.
If you find another source for these gaskets let me know.

I prefer cork myself. I use weather strip cement and glue them to the valve cove and dry against the head.

 

The ones I am referring too are reusable, you can't over torque them and don't require sealer.

That is what I have been doing for a few years now. I did just find out that if you wipe baby powder on the head side of the gasket, it will not stick and not leak on that side if you want to reuse them next time. I am going to try that next time.

 

I agree 100% with you guys - this is pretty much the procedure I had been doing. (minus the baby powder) If you are not taking off your valve covers frequently this is the good approach and at a reasonable cost.
If however you take your valve covers off with any frequency the better gaskets will make it so much easier. The main advantages I see is that you don't have to worry about over torquing the gasket and they should last a long long time.

 

Just got off the phone with him. He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable on his products. Great guy. Placed order and wanted to order a pair of his valve covers too but he say's they no longer make em. Too bad, those things are BAD ***!
