Priming a 400 before starting
#2
I just realized this topic has been covered a few times. Sorry about that. I guess to further my question, do you have any tips for starting procedures? It is a 68 400 roller cam motor. I've seen that a 5/16 hex socket is the tool used to spin the oil pump. Can I just use a socket with an extension hooked to a drill? Or is there a special tool? Do I spin it counter clockwise? I assume the oil pump is free of the distributor gear. Meaning it wont affect the position of the distributor when reinstalling. Right? Sorry if this seems basic. I didn't build the engine so I'm unfamiliar with the guts!!!!
Looking forward to SUCK-SQUEEZE-BANG-BLOW
Thanks!!

Yep just hook a socket with extension to a drill. It has been recommended to duct tape them together so nothing falls in your engine. Counterclockwise. Oil pump is separate from cam gear. Its turned by the rod that connects to the bottom of the distributor.
