pilot bearing

Hello all. I am swapping out a 455 in my 68 442. The engine I am installing has a pilot bearing for manual tranny but have decided to go TH 400. Does the bearing need to be removed? Thanks in advance. Greg

ASSUMING this is the factory pilot bearing and not one of the aftermarket conversion bushings, it sits far enough forward to avoid the pilot on the torque converter. The conversion bushing sits where the torque converter goes and must be removed first.

Thank you sir for your reply. I was assuming I could leave it, but I am glad I asked. Not factory. It will have to come out. Greg
