Oil Filters

Went to go buy a Purolator Pureone oil filter for my 68 442 400 engine and the guy at the counter told me they are discontinued. Is this true? I hope this isnt a sign of things to come!

The PL20033 is obsolete according to their website. The PL25288 fits the 403. The differences I can see is the anti drain back valve in the PL25288 and it is also thinner and shorter.

Purolator app guide.

Try a Fram PH25 (interchange) or if you don't have headers use Fram PH11 (Carquest CFI 85258) it's a taller filter...

I would steer away from Fram. If you've ever seen one cut apart, it's pretty scary inside. Even AC filters, which I used to use exclusively, are now "dumbed down". These days I use Wix/Napa Gold.

This was just discussed here over past few days (see below). I used that Fram PH25 filter for many years without issue but studies show otherwise. I've been using a larger Wix/NAPA filter since the last rebuild.
